Star of the show at present is Euphorbia pasteurii, which is a cross between E. mellifera and E stygiana (I think).
Anyway, taller than me and about 7' wide, it has a really powerful honey smell and looks splendid.
I must cut that bloomin' eucayptus down...it was only a seedling in 2012! The Paulownia close by (Foxglove tree) is just coming into leaf. That is probably hardy now and may stay.0 -
Just unloading pictures from my camera....it's the old 2007 vintage one, so they're not great quality.
This is part of the road hedge we cut/laid a few weeks ago now:
Anyone's guess how long we'll continue to have ash trees, but if these succumb to disease, at least they are already 4/5 cut through! :rotfl:0 -
We did get some roofing done yesterday pm, in perfect conditions too.
Now pushing on to try and straighten the bit that looks dodgy, even though it's not structurally bad.....
Fay, could you not line your plants out somewhere in the garden just for the summer and then dig them up in the autumn? Easier to keep that way, and they won't notice.
Sadly I don't really have anywhere. I guess I could not grow peas and beans and use my veg plot but is the sacrifice worth it???0 -

I am still waiting on a quote for the fence. If that was done I would plant them as it's nice here but not too hot and the ground is quite moisture retentive. I'm not sure what to do. I may see how hey go over the next couple of weeks then if they need to be planted I will give up the veg plot.
One of the Daphne's is looking a little yellow on some leaves but I've read these can be tricky to grow anyway...any advice?0 -
Your garden looks wonderful Dave - You are so busy, I feel a right lazy sod. I could sleep for Scotland at the moment. Just doing sheep stuff & little else.0

I don't know much about daphnes, Fay, except they can be tricky, and some are short-lived. Maybe that's why I've passed on them.
Sitting here eating dried parsnip. It's an acquired taste. I think I've yet to acquire it!:rotfl:0 -
Nettles are a sign of plenty of nitrogen??????
I have them in places I put on a load of sheep dung. Someone said if you cut them off three inches from the top they die. I don't know if that's myth or not.
Gone quite grey here & drizzly, quite cold.0 -
Just put up the 'sail' awning between the pergola and conservatory, after today it'll be useful as a shelter from the rain.
Planted out the last of the daffs from pots around the fence with plenty of Gromore to boost the bulbs. I'm going to plant more lily-flowered tulips in the autumn, I've liked Ballerina and Sapporo this year, even against the grey sky the colour of Ballerini has popped.
Two peonies are growing OK, 2nd year I think, but not expecting flowers.0 -

been an amazing day weather wise , sheep got shorn also. the Jacobs go from looking like bean bags to mountain goats.. :rotfl:
I spent the weekend boxing up stuff for "the sale"... emptied a walk in storage cupboard and found things id forgot.. also have done 2 tip runs !! sat in the que at the tip yesterday for 20 minutes, today an even longer que... I had 6 cars in front of me after 30 mins queing when worker walked along telling us they closed in 8 minutes and if we weren't in they would have to turn us away ...... I have never seen cars move so fast ! no dawdling..whizzing in and getting out, I JUST made it in, unloaded, looked round and the que had cleared! I laughed and asked the man why the drivers cant move in and out as quick during the day !!
new dog is called DOLLY DAYDREAM.. she is as good as gold but does do the occasional piddle indors [much to my sons annoyance!]... as she was kennelled I can understand it ... a bit ! its as if she just has to go and cant wait ? which makes me think ...IS she preggy ? I know it puts pressure on their bladder. I cant feel anything but she is plump anyway ! I could ask the vet but im a bit scared of the answer !!0
