I've grown some astrantias from bare roots this year, first time trying. Major and maxima, from Dutch bulbs. They have nearly all popped up, just waiting on a few. Fingers crossed they do ok. My other two astrantia major are looking healthy and a star of beauty (I think), the majors are 2 years old and the star of beauty was from last year.
I'm also doing quite well with my host as. First go at those from bare roots too. I'm building up quite a little collection now lol.
It's been boiling here today, 25 degrees this afternoon. It's beautiful but a little breeze whilst I worked would have been most welcome. But that is in no way a complaint from me. We are similar to your Dave but our rain is from Wednesday onwards and heavy by the looks.0 -
Dave are her tanks on your ground? That's not a good result if she's not having them emptied as they need it.
I'm supposed to helping a guy starting to re-roof his shed tomorrow - will be interesting. bee waiting for a dry & calm spell - hopefully it will last a few days.
I've not touched the garden this year - it's a mess apart from some pruning. The veg garden is a weed infested mess. I just feel guilt, guilt, guilt all the time. I have to go about with my eyes closed as there is so much that needs doing it's doing my head in.
Enjoy the weather while it lasts Fay - sounds like it's our turn now;)0 -

Only one. We own the other, but they both drain out via the same pipe and eventually enter a drainage percolation area under our lower field, 50m away.
We agreed to stay linked to them only because they could pull strings, get Mr Rod on the case fast and dispose of the debris from making a new field for free.
There's no more suitable land below the point where our percolation area is now. It's all clay beyond, so if it's messed up again, we'll go treatment plant of our own.
We have another tank linked to a toilet in the barn, so we can cope OK short term.....which is more than they can!

Sounds like a bit of a problem, but you're very diplomatic - I'd probably go in all guns blazing & not help the situation. Must learn to keep my powder dry.
It's too warm to light the stove so sent Mr Choille upstairs to put the immersion heater on.0 -

She, and a few others around here are also just a bit thick, or screwy, or both, so allowances have to be made. While we don't see eye to eye on everything, it's probably better if we don't fall out.0 -

A few of ours are originally seed-raised, selected from dozens that we bred from named varieties. I have a deep red we call 'Hagrid,' because it's so robust in all respects and darker than most.
Haven't come up with anything like 'Roma' yet, which is one of my favourites:0 -
Roma does look a beauty Dave. I'm looking forward to seeing what the maxima are like, as I've never seen them in real life, just in a catalogue. I planted out 12 verbena bonariensis last night and it's rained all night and due to rain all day so hopefully they will enjoy that. Potted up another 12 for in my new borders. Will plant a couple more. Trying to use it as one of the plants all through the garden to try and tie it together...we will see. I love growing plants on and nurturing them but I'm just not very good at putting them together, sadly, despite lots of reading about it all lol0

2nd nice day in a row here
Although I have man-flu
Snails out in force, but caught some last night. Looks like the everlasting sweet-pea is coming back, some green shoots.
The fastest growing plant over the last few weeks is Angelica archangelica, so I'm hoping it'll get to the promised 2m.0
