our boys will have a culture sock lol...

Is that with pictures of the Mona Lisa or Sunflowers on them, instead of Homer Simpson? :D

I'm about to have a children shock, as mine return here for the holidays, having heard that we now have a bathroom again. :rotfl:MiL is still declining our offer of the bunk beds and is angling to have us replace those with a king size double, but I'm putting my foot down. It's a standard double, or nothing in the guest room. It's not as if we haven't all made compromises with this place to get it done on-budget. :p

Weather looks poo after today, and changeable at best into April, but we need the rain to spur on growth. The stream is virtually dry. I just hope it settles a bit after that, because the conservatory must come down; handling 5' sheets of glass isn't fun in a wind. :(

Goodness Alfie - If the chick is really bad & you don't want to dispatch it could you get someone to do it? Or could you drown it? Sounds bad & callous but it would put it out of its suffering.

Sort of dull here & supposed to lash down later. So will feed the sheep soon.

Good you are getting orders CTC. I seem to be wallowing in inertia at the moment - everywhere is dust & dirt & can't seem to shake a leg.
Keep waiting for joiner to come back, but promises never seem to transpire - gosh does anyone have tradesmen that actually do what they promise, turn up when they say?

I tried that once thinking it would be a quick end to a poor bird.... owl ran / flew in opposite direction and looked like it had seen an alien !!:o

postie has said he will do it for me... sad cos when its ok ...its ok but then it has a sort of fit..
just popped home to let dogs out and a bacon sarnie then back to the railway for another couple of hours,
    then take chick to postie
then take ex army cub leader to see friends 11 acre wood as a possibility for camping for them in the summer. its a not very well off area the kids come from and cant afford posh camp sites etc.. so will help local kids see a bit of wild life away from their games consols !!...if its suitable..

Made the most of decent weather, not sure it'll last with Storm Katie forecast.

Anyhow, removed the honeysuckle from one side of the pergola, it was a magnet for mildew. I've placed it against a side fence and it may do better.

Replaced with clematis 'Marie Boisselot' and a grafted white wisteria; I left the perpetual sweet-pea so they'll have to battle it out.

Slugs seem plentiful already, I'm just using pellets until the ground is warmed up for nematodes.

well..... after the bacon sarnie it all went t*ts up here ! :(

I got a call to say mum had had a fall out on a coach trip.. was informed she was enroute to Winchester A&E ... so I wizzed up the motorway and there she was on a stretcher bed !
apparently she had walked round the town etc, sat on a bench waiting for return coach, got up too quick and dropped like a stone ! she fell half on the pavement and top half under the coach !! a young lady on the coach took charge [bless her] and having done her first aid thingy did all the right stuff. paramedics carted her off then..
shouldn't laugh but the police turned up too as they had a call saying a lady had been hit by and was under a coach .... I told mum she is probably pictured all over facebk by now ...;)
she had xrays as hip was agony but no breaks just bad bruising... got her home , settled her in, acquired a walking frame from a 90yr old "sprinter " who on asking appeared with one !
so I have to play catch up tomorrow now ... but mums fine. I will go to her first ting to make sure she is ok... she has all her emergency pulls in the flat and shes happier there.

    and breath.......

IHS - became very stormy here this afternoon & evening. Wind is really gusting & the noise is loud.

Alfie - your poor Mum, but glad she is only bruised. She's a toughie.

Plumber popped in as we had some wet black stuff oozing from stove but it seems to be because of condensation on boiler & or wet wood. So not as bad as I feared, but still a bit nervous that it will be fine. radiators are hot! This is no novel!

Glad your Mum's OK, alfie. Possibly oblique good news, if the dizzy thing is the effect of low blood pressure. Most of us oldies have the more dangerous high version! Just have to be aware.;) DW is the same.

We are somwhat concerned at present as Horse Woman randomly decided to go visit the stables at Lambourn yesterday and phoned to ask if we wanted to go. Caught me on the hop, as it was early morning and I'd forgotten what day it was....:o

Anyway, she must've gone, but if I'd had all my marbles at the time, I'd have warned her off, with Bank Holiday traffic etc.

At 10.30 last night there was still no sign of her, at which time I lost consciousness....Soon as it's light, I'll go take another look, but there's nothing we can do anyway. :(

    She's not there.

Feeling guilty, though I shouldn't. I was taken by surprise and dopey at the time. :o

Hopefully, she decided to go into a B&B or something, but who'd take her, with that dog.....? :(

Oh Dave, you are a good neighbour.

She'll turn up later on - hopefully!

Raining here, but the wind seems to have eased off completely. It's all grey & moody looking out there.
