Charity is big around here: British Hen Welfare Trust and Secret Millionaire + a homeless & vulnerable youngster's foundation (that I won't name) being two. The village is pretty good at it as well, with the money we raise in events like the Panto covering costs for things like the old people's Hot Lunch Club. It isn't the same in the larger village down the road. ;)

So, it was a typical response when I asked someone if they ever let out the small piece of fishing that runs with their land near us. "No, but you can give me some money for charity if you like it enough!" :D

Lucielle - sounds exciting choices afoot. Toss a coin as sense takes so much energy.

Sometimes you just have to go with the risk or not. It's a hard one coz who knows what's round the corner.

The house you looked at and described sounds wonderful Daffy - we were over ar Rosehall the other day & had a peek at a house that was bought for Coco Chanel by her lover & is like a time warp. It's all listed & looks like you could sink millions into it - wet rot, dry rot etc. There's still the original wall paper on the walls. We didn't linger as there were people about - new owners we hear. It seems it will be a hotel eventually.
Plumber here all day & the stove is in & looks really good. I just have quite rubbish logs at the moment yet it did heat the radiators which is more than the Rayburn did.
Only down side is the pipe is a bit at a cant as it's slightly misaligned & it's two different colours - steel & matt black, but I have some flue paint - so will do it all black.
The house is dirty & dust everywhere & nowhere finished - it's a bit of a drudge at the moment.

Well I think it's doing well.
The water tank is huge compared to the Rayburn & we just burnt some really quite light-weight wood - pine - last night & it heated the radiators & the room up within quite a short space of time. I was surprised. It was good to get a bit of heat after the last few days as it's been really cold. It's been good to get heat coming from the radiators as well - even though we are getting into Spring - it's good that it's going to work. You can switch btw the rads & the oven & other little tinkerings.

    Hurrah for heat, choille!

We have heat, just not control over the heat/water heating, and we still await the electrician's return. :(

Meanwhile, British Gas , having withdrawn from their free insulation offer, have now passed our details to another company, who have passed them to a more local firm. They want "up to £300" for top-up loft insulation, so probably more for full replacement. In other words, there ain't no free insulation now for folk like us, so we may as well DIY.

It's very lucky I kept all the old stuff in the barn, though God knows how many mice are living in it now!!!:rotfl: I will get it out when ready, spread it around, see what's reusable and use it. Then I'll put some new stuff on top to hide it. Not a nice job, but I'm not too bothered, as I was fully expecting some clowns on the free scheme to install theirs badly anyway. There's a lot of dodgy people in that particular business! ;)

Hosting a soiree for Horse Woman tonight, who we're a bit worried about since the passing of her horse. There were signs the upkeep of the land and so forth were getting too much, but now she''s sent the nag back to the rescue place, there's nothing for her to do and no reason to get up early etc.

People are not very good at planning for the inevitable...:(

    Quiet in here....smiley-scared004.gif

We await the arrival of Horse Woman and her Dog (wolfhound - a bit thick.) The cats, now locked in the utility room, think we've offended them! :rotfl:They don't know when they're well-off.

Today Mr Dog had an interesting visitor for 1/2 hour: an unmarked refrigerated van. Can't think what a deer hunter would have that might require one of those.....

Meanwhile I've used the ride-on fully for the first time and I'm very pleased. :D

Has the CCTV picked up anything good yet CTC? That's something I'd like, but it'll have to be later, when all the big spending is done....or rather I hope nothing happens to push it up my priority list. _pale_
