Nope, Nosey, er ... Alfie, but we are going to give her charity some money. Does that count?
It's a field we aren't able to use at the moment, so no skin off my nose, and the horses are very pretty.
I've long-sponsored rescue centres, just the last ones were cats'n'dogs. Sometimes it's a boring donation, sometimes sourcing a product (I kept one cat rescue centre in cat litter for a couple of years; it came by the pallet!) One way I've raised money for them is via complaints. Any time I've had a problem with utilities, removals firms (Dave saw the photos of that one), solicitors, etc., I argue my case and ask for a partial refund/compo. They sort-of agree they are at fault, but dispute the amount. Then you say, "well, make the cheque payable to XXX animal charity", and they instantly cave.
So far this year, we are around the £300 mark. I have a stack of cheques on a bookcase waiting. Charity giving by being a professional moaner. It is incredibly satisfying, and can take the wind out of EDF's sails, and stop an Estate Agent in their tracks. I'd encourage you all to try it!0 -
I dug out some old pictures of the donkeys I had as a kid, to show the mad lady referred to above, and found this one, of me as a kid, playing in the river.
I have just returned from ... playing in the river here, jeans and wellies, covered in mud, accompanied by donkeys. I have slightly less hair now. And yes, Alfie, despite the hair in that, I am a bloke that's just a bit soft on animals...
Things never change... except hairstyles!
{I shall delete that picture, after you've all had a good laugh at my coiffure!} :rotfl:0 -
Anyway, what I'm actually meant to be researching this lunchtime is mini tractors. Any of you experts in Kubota 1501/2201, Yanmar 1610, or cheapie new Siromers?
The donkeys are refusing to cooperate! Unsurprisingly....

At caravan for an early holiday. OH has done some gardening in the hedge, I've done a tiny bit of pruning the rose and some stuff in the pots on the deck. Might go to garden centre tomorrow if I can raise the energy.
We have a visitor comes knocking at our door...Pheasant by Maggie, on Flickr
We call him Harold, after our previous landlord - suggestion came from our neighbours who said reason why was "he's so persistent". Mrs Harold came and fossicked around under the bird feeder this afternoon, but OH was just coming back from shops and scared her off before I could get a photo.
Back home for Easter, so we'll be trying to get to lottie if it isn't chucking it down with rain. Need to plant the spuds and stuff like that.0 -

Ah.....I am in a different time zone at present, having gone to bed at circa 20.00, suffering with knackereditis.
You see, apart from it being really sunny and pleasant yesterday, they were supposed to be closing the road to re-surface the hill, so we'd planned to drop half a dozen more trees, especially the ones that would have to fall in the road.....
But the road stayed open and seemed busier than usual. We carried-on anyway, so there were some 'interesting' moments as we battled to control trees and traffic armed with only a couple of cones, a pink wheelbarrow, a hand saw and a lorry rope. It's difficult to use a chain saw in the hedge, and anyway, it's important to hear if anything is coming! :eek:I guess we'll have to use power for the oak trees, but they are still small. Ash cuts easily.
Anyway I was whacked after doing that and having a wonderful bonfire at the end of the day, where a huge amount of winter prunings/clearings disappeared in half an hour. We've waited a week to get the right wind for that.0
