Hi Fay - was the woman called Better days perhaps?

It's gone pretty chilly here as well. We went over East as we needed a bit more flu pipe, so that was got just in the nick of time, as the guy was shutting shop. Be a shame to have the new stove fitted on Monday & not be able to light it.

Yes, the cold has come as a real shock. Coupled with dry, the fields are looking worse now than they did in January. :( I found myself doing manual work wearing a fleece; something I can't remember doing for a long time.

But it is mid-March, so I felt bound to plant as many of the spare trees I've had heeled-in since I-dunno-when, or risk losing them, due to their increasing size.

All the Hazels I could find went into the laid hedge on the lower boundary . Then I planted a wayfaring tree in the woodland to replace a blackberry which sulked and finished in there by adding a Wild Service Tree to the mix. We must have at least 20 species in that area now, plus a few shrubs, like Buddleia and the wild Privet. :D

Yesterday I couldn't face climbing over the fences to do some of that work, but today I'm fine again. This Panto-itis is a strange and tricksy bug! Everyone says the same: can't shake it. :(

Speaking of which, I've already been allocated my next part. It's back to the big boobs & bloomers again! I guess I didn't cut it as a tough guy. :o

    The lady was phoebe.

    Of course - Phoebe.

The bug you had Dave sounds like a similar one that loads of folks had here --coughing all the time. We avoided it.....well so far we have.
You'll be looking forward to the cross dressing again |||Dave!
You sound very productive with the hedging.
I'm lazy days at the moment. Feeling quite tired most of the time. Think once the heating thing is sorted I will feel more at ease....and also warmer - hopefully.

Will we get a picture of the new stove Choille? It sounds great and hopefully no more heating problems ever again! How's the rest of the build coming on? Have you planned when you might be able to completely move in and leave the caravan behind?
Thanks both for the reminders of last folk too.
Looks like it could be a little brighter here today. Not much though. I am debating just getting wrapped up and getting out at 9, no matter what! I have he whole day to myself and lots of smaller jobs to do. I also have home gathered seeds and think I will try to start them by the Aga. I bought 3 dahlia tubers, 3 echinacea ones and a chocolate cosmos. Duly planted into pots with well drained compost, 2 weeks ago, and not a sign of life on any of them :(

Yes, I'm trying to wake my dahlias too, but they won't do much, unless we receive some more heat. It's as if everything has gone into suspended animation, but we mustn't be too impatient. :o

I thought my peas had snuffed-it, but they were just peeping through in their pots yesterday. I'll plant them straight into the polytunnel bed when they get going and have an early crop, like last year.:D

It's all prep at present. I can see that the 'pretty' garden will need to care for itself for another season, so it's a case of weeding as much as possible now to give it a decent start.

We also have an evergreen hedge to put in, but at least they're in pots, not bare-root. They'll be less bother and do better in the ground now, though.

Glad to read that the ash trees in this country are proving more resistant to ash die-back than their continental cousins. Apparently the helpful genes have been ID'd and work is under way to grow a race of resistant plants for the future. Should be possible without the expenses of cloning. :)

Fay - will post a pic once plumbed in - we are camping in the house as OH couldn't get in the caravan after his op.

Love cloud & dull here. We are off to get some drainage pipe later on that's on Gumtree so more gadding about.

And Dave, can we have some more pics of your beautiful planting. It's inspirational and I need all th inspiration I can get! I'm going to try and visit more gardens this year. Not for specific ideas but to try and give OH a feel for the planting look I'm after (cottage garden style planting and I would like it all to be bee and butterfly friendly) and to immerse myself in gardens. As mine is now back to quite bare bones it will do me good...hopefully.
Right, walk done, been to the shop, had some toast and coffee, done my ironing and more washing. Thermals on....and here we go!

Busy weekend so far. Took DD2 prom dress shopping yesterday all sorted.

DD1 is home tonight. She's going lambing with her brother for 2 days and then starts her own job on Wednesday. DD2 has also got a lambing job when 1/2 term starts.

Booked a restaurant for Good Friday as DS1 is 21 on Sunday but will probably be on nights then.

hello peeps....... bluddy cold here !! went to the first car boot sale of the season for here ! I don't know how the sellers sat there without getting hypothermia ! got a few bits of interest tho...
I haven't looked at my garden really yet ... I did mow the other day..
I need to hack down a big shrub but not sure now is the right time considering the temperatures..
feeding hay to the horses now which confirms like dave said, that the grass is poorer now than in January !!
BLUE my eagle owl has gone all broody and acting/sounding weird.. she keeps shuffling round in the hay in her shed bit and stock piling food in the corner. then at night she takes the food and scatters it round her flight area ? presumably to show she has good nosh to a "ghost" partner... womans lib eh !

im not sure when ruby is due back but the estate [beaulieu] that own the entrance to the track here, still haven't sorted the gate besides the cattle grid [the ground leading through 5 bar gate needs building up too] so cant get her and the cart out anyway ! will get on the case on Monday..
I "acquired" a restaraunt wine freezer a few weeks ago, doesn't work but its got 2 sliding glass doors and lined with shiny metal? insulating and wire shelves SO I thought it would make a great propagator for my seedings ... if I south face it , it should do the trick ....

my chicks are just over 3 weeks now and doing really well. the first feathers are coming through and they look quite comical ! I will get some pics ...
