Looks great Dave; might try that next time I am down that way. Have only seen a single glow worm once many years ago.
Had a wonderful bonkers evening once on the Moor at a moth hunt; that was fascinating. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Well the lovely lady from Wales came with her Mum & daughter & we had a couple of lads to roll the Rayburn into her horse box - some heaving & putting scaffolding poles under it & hey presto t'was rolled into the vehicle.
She's pleased & we are pleased.
Big gap awaiting the new eco wood boiler/cooker thing arriving Friday now. The chap who we are getting it from is doing a lot of work at Inverewe gardens down the road, but that is delayed so he is coming out slightly later than originally planned. It won't be plumbed in until Monday, so just as well it was glorious again today.
Somebody doing muirburn so it all went a bit smokey this afternoon, but then went all slightly foggy, but had a bon fire to add to the murk & as way of getting rid of the brash of the tree that was eventually got out.0 -
Not a lot to report here. I got the trunks from the ash trees we felled out of the field in the back of the van. Amazing it's dry enough at this time of year to drive in there.
While I was working, this yellow helicopter came in close and low, very naughtily going straight over the field across the road, where there are at least 4 horses out at present.
I think it was the police or similar, because they were looking for something/body. They spent an hour or more combing the area below in the valley, seeming dangerously low at times. Well...judge for yourselves!
Good that the woman turned-up, cholle! :beer:0 -
Beautiful view Dave - Lovely.
We too had a hovering helicopter the other day & no one yet knows what or who it was trying to locate.
You will maybe find out tomorrow & be able to let us know. These things are intriquing in a very gruesome sort of way.0 -
Morning all
Choille so glad the mad welsh woman turned up.
Alfie when are you off to Canada?? Not long now??
Took the rest of the weaners/ stores to market yesterday, and had a really good price for them..put a conservative reserve of £30 on them, ( due the market/ prices being low across the board) and got £52 each for them..
Weather has been beautiful here, but yesterday morning, and this morning has been a bit foggy and cold.Work to live= not live to work0 -
That was good with the weaners CTC.
We have been the same with the weather, but low cloud this morning.
Just noticed that the bulfinches have arrived.0 -
Bright yellow unmarked helicopters are mainly used by utility companies and the like. The electricity companies use them nowadays as a fast way to scan over and underground cables, looking for hotspots that indicate poor insulation, the water utilities use them for underground leaks, while GCHQ use them to listen to your every thought and drea... Oh, shouldn't have let that last bit slip out, must remember to delete it!
They certainly can fly close. There's a minor set of poles over the edge of the far fields of mine, and they have crawled (whatever a helipilot calls it) up and down those at about fifty to a hundred feet. Couldn't be more, from the tree height. Supposedly, it's cheaper than using a man 'n van, but I suspect it's just a lot more fun! Mine had a clue as to what it was about: "ELECTRICITY" printed on the side, as if it wasn't obvious enough! Our waterways here get similarly surveyed.
I was told that all Police helicopters have to be marked as such, but I'm not completely convinced.
We have an Aga to dispose of shortly. It's an old solid-fuel one that was converted to oil. It's going to be a job getting it out, that's for sure. I think the rear porch has been rebuilt since it was put in!
It was a lovely day yesterday. I spent much of it poo-picking fields, tidying vegetation, and just watching the birds. Along our river we have herons, kingfishers and marsh harriers, and the wood behind the river has buzzards. I don't think the fish or rodents stand a chance!0 -
Good that you were rewarded properly, CTC. Happy animals look good I guess.
Don't think yesterday's aerial visitor was looking at leccy, although the height was right. It seemed to be paying attention to woodland and it was flying at right angles to most power lines.
As it wasn't red, I thought it was the Secret Millionaire, who comes here to see the results of his £££ input into good works. He's not very secret though, arriving in a blaze of rotor blades. Whenever there's a 'copter, everyone first thinks it's the air ambulance, wondering whose turn it is to have the ride outta here that no one wants....:(
Three burly men got our old Aga out on scaffolding pole rollers, no probs. You have £200 to beat!0 -
Everyone appears busy at the money, hope you are all taking some rest time and looking after yourselves too.
I am planning on doing a bit in the garden today but my life it's cold out there. Last weekend was beautiful and was spent in the house painting, this weekend OH is working and I have the whole weekend to do what I want...and it's grey, cold and cloudy. Typical. Still, will try and do a bit and there are house jobs to do if it's too cold anyway.
We seem to have a few day dreamers MIA too, rummer I know is busy. But there was a lovely lady who joined us having moved into a superb house near Wolverhampton/Bridgnorth way and u can't for the life of me think of her username, she was discovering her garden and it sounded wonderful. Shame we lose people. Would love an update on her patch.0
