Insulation is a necessity & the more of it the better. Good you are in the system for the free stuff.

None too clever here, either :( Lashing down with rain, but doesn't (yet) feel cold enough for snow.

Reckon I can move my aquatic plants from the tank into the garden...

Sorry, not on FB, alfie. Too many in the village are, IYSWIM.;)

Today looks like being generally 'bleurgh!' from one end to t'other, so I suppose I'll have no excuse but to carry on with the bathroom work. :(

It dried out sufficiently to mow on Monday with the Honda, but I still haven't tried my ride-on. Thrashed round the new woodland area with the brushcutter for an hour yesterday, so at least we have a path again, but roll on the time when the trees begin to shade out the understorey.

More trees and shrubs arrived yesterday, so maybe I can get a few of those in during the wet. Mr Dog is going to get such a surprise when the road hedge he's tried to prevent me growing, blossoms with roses, instead of the brambles he'll think they are! :D:p He's been busy building a wall, of sorts, along the side of his house to stop another flood there coming in....but the water has to go somewhere. The farmer who owns the field opposite can plough either way, but always seems to go with the slope, which means faster run-off. Perhaps he has his reasons! :rotfl:
  • Morning all

Been an awful few days.. M.I.L. phoned Saturday morning to say she fell.due to being dizzy etc, and it took her 3hours to get to the phone.. Cut a very long story short she is still in hospital. Hubby was called back there last night at 10pm, as she was violent .. And he came home at 3am.. She has a bad water infection. Which is making her trip for a better world. She is seeing things.. Rats, rabbits people turning into things etc. She was on a drip with anti B's but she pulled the thing out.. She is getting worse as the days are going on, surely she should be getting better as the days go back on??? Hubby did ask if they could sadate her last night, as she was a harm to other people and herself, but there was no Dr available to asses and prescribe anything..and they were thinking of leaving her out today, as there are are no physical Injuries!!!

Hubby recorded her speaking last night..

I really do hope last night was the worst, and she starts getting better, they say that water infections in the elderly can be mistaken for the onset of Alzheimer's or diemensia ..as the signs are very similar ... When she goes home hubby will stay there for a few days..

Apart from that.. Everyone is fine.. Lola.. Is turning into a cwtchy hot water bottle lol the pigs, cats and birds are fine..

My car's not was due a week ago, and we decided to take it off the road.. As in a months time the fleet insurance is due, so we are just insuring 2 vans, the transit, and the LWB iveco ..

Hope everyone is OK... And fingers crossed the weather will break properly soon and spring will be here

You are organised dave. I feel we are just treading water - well slowly sinking at the mo.

BT guy here again as the BB is off on off on & he knows us like relatives now! Working just now, but probably our fault this time for moving a cable from the caravan!

CTC - Urine infections can knock someone silly really bad. takes a while for anti-biotics to kick in & see an improvement, but quite scary for you all. Hope things calm down a lot quickly.

Off to look at stoves as there are a few maybe that would do the job, but it's all a bit tight financially at the mo. Will need to try & sell the Rayburn - it's lovely & I am really !!!!ed that we will be getting rid of it.
Seems very calm today after the miny hurricane yesterday thatwasn't forceast. Loads of wood blown about.
  • Thanks choille , its knocked hubby for six, and really scared him..

Its such a poo about the Rayburn.. Really gutted for you..

I notice FK is doing glass decorating classes locally .. So hopefully her trip to the USA will pay off... Fingers crossed.. Hopefully she will post soon to let us know how she is..

Trying to eat through the stuff in the freezers , so today will be a cooking day,

A huge pot of cawl, a chicken dinner for tonight, and cook any half used bags of sausage rolls etc that are lurking in there lol..

The live yougurt drinks are good if she's on anti biotics. Yalkult those sort of drinks in wee bottles.

Looked at a cooker boiler that is multi fuel a Ilaria - Italian. You can up the grate so it doesn't use as much fuel yet heats the water in the Summer.

I'm rather taken, but it's a shame - glad we didn't fit the new floor or tile the hearth as that's all to come out.

Sorry to hear about MiL, CTC. If there are toxins in the blood, she may hallucinate, but once they're cleared out, there should be no long term problem. It's good she made it to the 'phone. Had an elderly neighbour once who was on the floor for more than a day. Heard nothing. :(

Choille, I'll have a proper look at that stove in the morning. After the first real Panto performance this evening, I'm too knackered to think straight!

Edit: I've had a quick look, and there's not a lot out there about Lincar from existing owners, but what's there is seems pretty positive. There's quite a few of these continental cooker stoves, but in this country we've been rather parochial and stuck with the well-known manufacturers, like Aga, Rayburn & Stanley. As a result, maybe we've not been served best .....or is it just that we grumble more about what we know well?

Having had an Aga, I would not want one again, as the efficiency of heating with it was poor and cooking was dire in high winds. Yes, other times, it was nice to have an oven that didn't need cleaning!

Panto audience were one of the hardest we've ever had, I think, but that's concessions night for you! ;) I toned my act down a little (I'm horrible!:p) but one little tot was so worried at me being nasty to her Grandad that she had to come backstage to check he was OK at 1/2 time! :rotfl:

Sounds like the panto went well even though you've traumatised the local toddlers. Time to lay down the trusty sword & rest up......

Thanks Dave - You see there's a gap in the kitchen, or will be when we take the Rayburn out. I thought it would be a good solution & quite eco as we do have wood. These pellet jobbies seem to be a bit of a hype.

If we start adding in a boiler to keep the rayburn & go the oil route then it is proving quite expensive - new or 2nd hand tank & new boiler. Don't really want oil - always been against it really since the Iraq war!

This would do the water & the heating & we can use it as a cooker.
We are shovelling in the anthracite into the Rayburn as it it's The Flying Scotsman to warm the kitchen & water & maybe getting a luke warm towel rail in the loo next to the kitchen.

A new Rayburn is about £5,000 - which would actually heat the rads as the boiler is bigger & more wrap round. We can't really afford that at all - well we can't.

I can't find really many reviews on-line for the Lincar range. I'm just really scared of making a mistake after the Rayburn disaster.

    Excuse the thinking aloud................
Been snowing this morning, but not much.
