Goodness the price of tiles at Homebase have gone up.
When we bought them for the kitchen they were £5 a box, just gone online to order some matching ones for the utility and they are now £12.99 a box
Hope you are all ok in the south and west, the forecast weather looked pretty grim. Dry so far here, as Dave pointed out, it's our turn in the east tomorrow.
I grew some mixed sedums from seed in the summer and have them in pots in the mini greenhouse but not really sure what to do with them as some are quite delicate. Mr BD has made me a low sided wooden tub out of gravel boards so if the weather holds I will plant them up today. It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Re the bricks - I'm sure you could get some from a reclaim yard, Better Days, but whether your workman could match the mortar etc is the big question mark.
I think you could just get a blanking plate for the old tumble-drier one and think of something else to cover the filling-in of the Vent-Axia hole, which is harder to ignore. Maybe not a nest box, because the wall will get too warm, but how about an exterior clock, or a Green Man? The hole behind will be about 9" if I remember correctly.
Yes, 'tis blowing a hoolie here right enough, though no significant rain yet.0 -

Hope he's as amenable as ours.
Yesterday was exceptionally clear, so I spent 10 minutes up on the scaffolding taking a few pictures, including a couple of the town, which we barely see from ground level.
Looking at these afterwards, I spotted a bungalow which had come on the market a year or two after ours, and which now sports a brand new 2 storey extension. It looks a bit of a mess, but maybe they're still working on it. It certainly doesn't "match existing," as stated on the planning application.
I remember looking at it and thinking, "This place couldn't be very private and most of the land's too steep for horses."
Well, I'm right about the privacy, as they've not planted a single tree, but brand new stables have gone in, so presumably they have a special breed of horse with opposite legs of unequal length! :rotfl:
Significant rain has arrived now. You won't like this if you get it later.:(:(

Good luck with the Inspectors
Pays to ask their advice as it can save a lot of expense & stress
Blawing a hooley here - real strong gusts, but mild & dry so far0 -

Thanks for your advice Dave, so helpful to have ideas from you all - I think you are right - matching the bricks and mortar will not be easy. Mr BD has located a reclamation yard nearby so he will have a look there and Travis Perkins do do grey bricks which you can buy singly - but the shade will probably be totally different.
I think we are going to have to settle for bricking up in a different shade and then covering with a clock or Green Man or some sort of exterior decorative thingy.
Hang in there with the rain - it looks horrible on the forecast. The kitties are resting up in the bed in anticipation of the rain tomorrow which they will strive to sleep through as they are wont to doThey appear to have given up on their terrorisation of the local vole and shrew population - they are fair weather hunters.
LIR how did it go with the BI?
My parcel from Fat Face arrived today.I have literally worn out my old FF tops to holes which I bought on ebay years ago (lovely soft cotton) and as FF had a sale on I decided that as a reward for not strangling the builder some new tops should be winging their way to BD central. And Mr BD has announced he needs some new jeans - having worn the old ones to holes too - and is going into town today to buy some replacements.
So we are going to be as smart as we have ever been in the BD household soonThere is a thread on the pets board about dog coats - perhaps old dog and daft as a brush should also share in the clothing bonanza!!!

Davesnave We had a house not far from us some part of the church, very old but not listed, needed loads of work. The new owners bought it and extended it but instead of putting a normally upside down V shaped roof (not sure of name lol) They put an upside down w shape on it (lord knows if it leaks in the middle area) and made it super modern looking, which sticks out like a sore thumb round here, plus they wanted 250k more than other houses of that size round here, needless to say its still on the market 7 years on! And the back garden is a grave yard. Now That doesnt bother me, but i think if yourgoing to by an ex church in a grave yard maybe you are the kind of person who likes a church to look like a church and not a space ship?
Anywho ..Seems like a great thread especially when you start talking about taking the mould off the top of jam , and wearing things to they fall apart!
Sadly nothing i have will sell on ebay , well not much but I'll try and spur myself on even if I make £200 that's a bit towards it. I'm trying to find an old lock so I can learn to pick them, not for illegal reasons but it's something that's been recommended to learn for survival techniques and an empty large catering tin to build a rocket stove with. I'd be thrilled if i could get those..little things hey?
Anyway grim looking here but not raining yet, off to take eldest to Karate, then back for left over stirfry. Have a good day all xxCompers challenge 27/70

mummy2threeboys there is a house a few miles from here which is traditional red brick, but it has the most ghastly 'modern' box like extension sticking out of the back like a sore thumb. You can see it for miles across the fields. How they got PP is a total mystery to me, but of more importance locally is that the bloomin' 'wind farm' PP has now gone to appeal to the secretary of state (I think). Suffolk CC have refused permission but applicant seems determined to get his turbine.
My organic fruit and veg box arrived this morning - russet apples - yum yum, and the winter veg starting to come through too - I love winter veg.
Found some nice plaques on ebay - rather like this cockerel one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271638781389?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT and this seller has some attractive hare plaques http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/Garden-Patio-/159912/m.html?item=261460190186&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_ssn=firwel&_sac=1
Have also been looking at the Green Man ones, but some are a bit creepy - they watch you as you go past but this one is a possibility http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251679153297?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITIt is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
