Thanks for the reminder alfie but no gas out here. We do have an elderly oil boiler though, but that is in the utility and is vented through its very own chimney. Didn't really explain it very well but the vents are only open to the outside wall, and not on the inside (all tiled over). There is an air vent in the living room which I wouldn't block up as we have a stove.
Sounds like it was not a day for enhancing your sartorial elegancemade me smile with the dogs refusing to budge - our daft as a brush lurcher is a real wimp when it comes to rain. He prances around as if trying to dance between the raindrops.
Hope you feel better soon RAS, a persistent cough is exhausting.
Thanks for the link Dave - good find, manufacturers are thin on the ground. It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

That's a really good idea. It's a west facing wall, and does get a lot of sun in the summer - any bird enthusiast here - would it be ok? Mind you at the very least it would be a lot more decorative than a facing plate, although I did find these which may fit on the 6x6 one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171504668840?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Ah... so is the brick vent idea - although I doubt I would get calcuim silicate ones - still if they were covered up with something else it would work I think....certainly much better than ruddy laminated mdf.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Welcome forestry teacher What a good idea. I think they do it in Fife
Very healthy. Some of us de-clutter on ebay to raise funds. It does help.
Rhiwfield - I do find taking photos in poor light pretty unsuccessful too. Good you got a light box though
I've fallen for a Malamute on Gumtree but the person hasn't really instilled me with much confidence. I've contacted the Rescue Malamute people who have yet to get back as I would like to find out more about the breed. I would use it as a work dog hopefully as well as a pet Living on a steep slope has it's disadvantages when it comes to shifting stuff
Been a lovely day over East Really quite mild. Got a spare wheel for the barra - £10,but if you need one, you need one0 -

Been a lovely day over East Really quite mild. Got a spare wheel for the barra - £10,but if you need one, you need onethey are wonderfull dogs with a "leader"... you have to be the boss and rewards are great. they NEED to work or boredom will send them stir crazy. the ones i know are very loving and gentle giants. obviously depends on its pre life but as i know with [albeit 1/100th of size] bimble ... "they can learn new tricks" as soon as they are happy they come good. i do hope it is suitable for you as i think it would be perfect as a work dog in your terrain ... they go great with a sled/truckette
but remember YOU ARE BOSS

Can I second the work thing? Good hard physical work every day. Not like a collie even, really physical work. Sounds like you are on the right track with pulling etc. friend of a friend has a team on a farm and they are 'driven'.
Their increasing popularity as pets makes me desperately sad for such wonderful creatures. Its tough to keep such tremendously physical dogs truely satisfied in any normal pet situation.0
