    :eek::eek: PACEMAKER ??;)

Triple by-pass is cheaper on batteries, but round here they'd only go and cancel it at the last minute! :rotfl:

The warm water bath is supposed to help when they're egg-bound, but as she was out of lay while moulting, we don't really think that's it.

A couple of days in the isolation wing sometimes works. It worked with t'other one a few weeks back. :)
  • Hello Laura :wave:do share your survival skills when you have a minute - Dave's long range weather forecast makes it sound like we may be in for a difficult winter - hibernation is currently looking pretty attractive :D Marmalade cat has got the right idea, spent the whole day asleep on the bed, and now sleeping on the back of the sofa, not a paw outside the cat flap all day.

Yes, I put mine in a cat carrier with a heat pad, some yoghurt and water with a little ACV in. So far has done the trick when one of the girls has been off colour. Have also bought some tonic drops so will add them into the mix next time the isolation 'wing' is required ;)

Luckily mine show no signs of moulting this autumn and we are still getting 2 eggs a day from 4 hens which is not bad for November.

Hoping to get into town later in the week. Some of the tiles on the hearth are cracked and need replacing and I need to see how close a match I can get, I'm sure I saw some 15x15 on the Fired Earth website, but can't find them now

Morning, damp here today, but dry so far.

Friday looks to be the day to avoid, rain forecast for the whole day.

Yes, we shall have your Friday on Thursday. ;)

When the rain arrived yesterday pm, I just did the weekly shop. It's just a question of working around the really inclement stuff and being thankful for low demand on heating fuel. Even the cats are learning where they can hole-up in showers, without sacrificing being out of doors.

Poorly hen seems no worse this morning. :)

    Harumph.

Kiwi and I sheltered in the feed room from a humdinger this morning.

The girls had wisely stayed near the house and hid in the utility room. It was hard to convince the boy to run back in a 'lull'.

    Advice pretty please!!!!

We currently have 3 vent covers in our outside kitchen wall. One is for the extractor and the others are, I assume, for old extractors. The old ones look horrible and rattle. I asked our plumber/kitchen installer to cover up the old ones with a blank vent cover. He wants to cover up with a bit of what appears to be laminated mdf and seal up the edges with silicone.

I think it will look like a dogs breakfast and won't last either as water will penetrate.

Can you actually get blank vent plates (other people must have this problem), or is there another more obvious solution I haven't thought of?

He can't use MDF for that! Are you sure he isn't intending to use a piece of UPVC?

There are all kinds of blanking plates made. Without sizes, I can't advise, but a better solution might be to reinstate the wall, or if that's too hard, fill in and cover with something like a decorative plaque, or whatever takes your fancy. Depends on the location, I suppose.
