Supposed to be away to Inverness on the bus, but appears that there is a really massive landslide at Garve so no go. Stood for ages waiting at the top of the track before neighbour came and told me about it.

Feel disappointed as looking forward to getting out & really could do with some shopping. Must get dried out...........

Flipping heck...best place to be in s inside..

Did you see the footage of that bridge collapsing on the news last night??

Also heard the yorvic is under water..

Has the government announced a state of emergency in these places??

On some sites they are now trying to blame uplands farmers , saying their sheep are grazing too much, and the water is running down the mountains causing the floods, no mention that loafs of houses were built on flood plains, and the local councils are still dishing the permission out, because the government have said they got to build x amount of new houses..

    Hope everyone is safe....

    "Where there's a claim, there's blame."

We're all responsible. We've been told more extreme weather events will happen as a result of climate change, and they are. :(

Set to calm-down soon here. We've had it easy, so far. Pete might be back with some sheep if the rivers go walkabout.

I agree Dave but I do think greed is the driving force. I do subscribe to grazing sheep as being a problem, but also cutting down trees, concrete over brown belt land, consumerism and usage of every and any item that can be used or concocted from our planet. Heck I could go on.

'We' walk around our vicinity ignorant to the effects that our desires have on the places we occupy because I think 'we' think we can come up with any solution we need to, or someone else should, to protect what is ours.

'We' just don't see that if we calmed down with what we want and relaxed in what we have, appreciated what is there and caring for it than maybe we would be alright.

    It's all so sad.

    evening all...

hope you've all had a relatively relaxing holiday break

im back to work but given tomorrow off :D

bit of a buuuummmmmer for son and GF...

set off to heathrow 3am today to catch their flight to st petersburgh [Russia]. got to desk and were told they couldn't fly as they didn't have the correct visa's !!!!! didn't say anything about this when they booked it all... :(
so they had to come home ... cant claim a penny back either. apparently Russia has wacked down a lot of new regs since the "bother"...
they were going for new year celebrations etc [4 days]
to say they are devastated is putting it mildly.....

im booking my Canada trip in the spring and am now paranoid that I "get it right" !!

I was watching all the horses in the field today and they all suddenly shot their heads up and bolted towards the field shelters ?? I thought it odd until within minutes a fierce wind came through with gusting horizontal rain..... think I may offer their services to the met office..;)

I feel so sorry for all the people involved in the floods. we have got away with it here, water but not horrendous at all...

keep safe peeps, im gonna have a lie in tomorrow...:j

It's so easy to blame farmers for everything. What about all the people who have paved over their front gardens so they can park their cars no where for the water to do except into drains......

Hope you all managed to get through the festivities in one piece. DS1 has decided to have a dry January, he has over indulged and is certainly paying for it. He has also applied for a job on a large estate in Penrith. I spent ages helping him with his CV and covering letter. Interesting times ahead. He hopefully has a lambing job starting in the middle of January.

The chaps have all clubbed together to send us for a couple of nights to Kinloch Lodge on Skye, can't wait as we'll be going sooner rather than later. Also been planning our girly trip away and will probably be taking my friend who turns 60 at the end of January and is game for anything. Think we're aiming to end up at Gairloch.

CTC OH says that's a good price for the husqy, if you get anymore info and want him to look it over just let us know.

Better get my butt in gear as the chaps have got eye tests.

Luceille I posted that, just incase it was of interest to anyone lurking..no use to us here...fingers crossed on the job front with DS1..

Well nearly another year over with... For us we will be glad to see the back of it.. I know the new year is going to be a major one too, but who knows what it will bring as none of us set out wanting a stressful life...

So let's hope that we all get a nice year, as I think we all need one!!

If anyone is out partying tonight , have a good one..

And to all of us who are staying in.. Have a lovely cosy night in with the ones we love..and watch Jules Holland lol

Well they got a single lane open & the bus came 2 hours later than expected - we phoned the garage & found out it was going ahead as there were people coming back over here. The driver is a diamond.
He goes over three times a week & returns later on that day - only bus we have. Apart from the Ullapool bus on Thursdays.
Amazing to see all the water logged ground from the height of the bus. Sheep clustered on the high up areas. The land slide has happened before where it is. It's just below the railway track a foot or so, so obviously the trains are off.

Climate change is here - always happened. Planners are well to blame for allowing development on flood plains. There was a big conference on drainage the other week in Inverness but OH couldn't go as he was in hospital. I have the notes now but haven't read what it is all entails. But seems that the Scottish Gov wants the water kept on the hill. hard to see how on earth that can happen when you see all these spectacular water falls everywhere here.
Massive tree planting proposals - well they've been on the go for a while.
Inverness was filled with bargain - plastic hand bags reduced from £40- £20 etc. I managed to resist & loaded up with food & a very nice Banksy calender & then had to 'borrow' a trolley to get me to the bus station. Mad middle aged bag wheeling bags.........
Lucielle please get in touch if you are heading up this way.

Beautifully orange bright today even though we have no direct sun it's gorgeous out there.

We'll be staying in with a tipple and most probably Jules Holland (if I can stay awake!)

Who knows what the next year will bring, this one has been pretty horrendous for me but thankfully it comes to end where we're in a good place and have hope and a little excitement for the change we find ourselves in.

Once January gets here I will be focusing on getting my plastic greenhouse assembled and look to strap it to the fence.

I also wondered if January was the time to sow celeriac in the said plastic greenhouse? I have seen conflicting advice online and don't know what to do.

Thanks Choille. I'll let you know once we're booked. Sooooo excited. Think I'll be on taxi duty tonight and probably tomorrow as the chaps are all planning on going hunting subject to getting enough quad bikes arranged.
