Got a glut of eggs, so been pickling some...so got my last lot to pickle today....the next lot can go in the incubator ..

You're lucky, I had to buy more today! :o:o:o

Last week I pitted Sainsbury's Organic against Lidl's plain free range. In this very limited test, Lidl won hands down. But they weren't like our eggs! :(

Finished my shopping....or so I thought, but now I hear our specially ordered chicken is going to meet us in South Molton tomorrow, which is a 24 mile round trip.:wall:

Can't say the shops were rammed today. Walking around Barnstaple, I noticed no one else was in shirtsleeves, but it was 12c at least. Some people were wrapped-up as if there was an arctic gale blowing up the estuary....I think those townies are a bit soft!

Arrived home to see that Pete had called. There was a card and a neatly handwritten bill for £500 for the fencing work he did in November/December 2013! :rotfl:

Thanks Pete, just what I wanted for Christmas! :undecided
  • These are the floor tiles we had for our kitchen floor, which hubby is putting down, so should be ready for us to buy the kitchen units in the sale,
This side of the house is coming together, the other side of the house is more or less gutted floor to roof.. Ready for the builder to put a new floor and ceiling in etc

That could be it Dave - The rads need bleeding.

I'll see how to do that tomorrow with a google. We had massive lightening strike & the computer went off - the brand new one. I cadged a lift with someone who we learned had the same & got it looked at. Needed a new cable thing - £42 but at least the computer was okay. It's been a time of things going wrong.
Blowing a gale & hail .....agin.

Sorry to hear of rubbish neighbour probs Dave - I would just lose the plot with them. I seem to be doing that a bit lately.
GP tried to get out of home visit to OH which was needed & I had to fight to get them to come. He needed his dressing changed, wound checked & blood tests. The hospital only let him out when they did on the condition he got home visit. So I was really not a happy bunny. The GP attempted to delay visit until Jan 7th!!!! It's scary sometimes.

I love those tiles CTC. I think they might be nicer than the ones we laid through the hall, utility and cloakroom, but anyway they're similar. :T

No one wants to work at this time of year, choille. Glad the doc has not evaded his call-out responsibility. It goes with the territory, and he should know it. :naughty:

Have you got an electricity surge protector on your 'puter choille? It would be worth it!

Off to bed, but still wide awake. Another hooley outside, but that won't stop me sleeping, if I can just get tired!

The hoolie woke me up, or rather the cracking and creaking of the roof! I've made use of the time and started my dessert for Christmas Day - gingerbread cheesecake :)

Oh that is naughty choille. I agree with Davesnave in that duties should not be evaded. I was a carer up until the summer and with that brings the responsibility of working when you would rather not. I've worked a lot of the previous 2 Christmases. I had a duty of care and so has the GP.

CTC lovely tiles there. Can I be nosey and ask what your plans are for the place you're living in. Have you moved somewhere new or renovating?

I'm a bit concerned about my rhubarb. I'm under the impression it should be underground right now. Is that right? Well I saw late afternoon that new green growth is unfurling. I guess it's the mild temperatures. Am I likely to have harvest problems?
  • Thanks Davesnave, I will see if I can get a better picture, as you can't pick up on the design, they look as though they are uneven, and slithers of stone has peeled ,/ blown out so to speak, like old flagstones, but being tiles they are flat and smooth-ish.. The tiles have 32 different patterns to make they different when you lay them..its the closest I could get to looking like flagstones in the co!our and pattern on the tile without being flagstones.. We are thinking of running them through to the other rooms on the other side of the house..while we got some money..

Weather was a bit windy last night!!!

    Fuddle I have pm'd you.

Choille.. So glad you managed to get the Dr out.. I am really surprised they had that attitude, but maybe it's just showing the times we are in..

I think it;s the practice manager whos new, but the GP was emailed from the hospital with details so really they have no excuse. The shut the wee surgery up the road last thurs & it won't open till 7th Jan. I can see them shutting it all together - it would save money. As it is it's only got a docs surgery there on Thurs mornings for three hours.
The post office come out to there for a 1 1/2 hour stint twice a week! So at least we can post stuff then. It's getting pretty shut down in the whole community.

Anyone hoping for gardening/small-holding related pressies tomorrow?

    I know I'm getting -
    • Garden Plants for Scotland
    • The Sceptical Gardener: The Thinking Person's Guide to Good Gardening
    • A Year of Good Eating: The Kitchen Diaries III
It goes without saying it's windy and wet here, maybe worse tomorrow? Pretty sure Boxing Day I'm going to be digging and laying another drainage pipe to take water away from the borders.

Had a few fish loses esp. the guppies; have dosed with praziquantel and that seems to have helped.
