Beautiful kitties alfie, and yes what huge ears!! :D I was just wondering the other day why big cats (lions/lionesses) have such small ears...

Can I ask daydreamers about air quality where they live. These dank, damp days seems to have dragged the air pollution around here down & I'm noticing it on my chest more :( I've also noticed a heavy smell of (wood??) smoke, especially on an evening, so I'm guessing there's a few more people with woodburners this year. I don't mind, I'd love something like that myself, but I think when you live in close proximity to other houses as I do, it all becomes a bit too concentrated. Whatever happened to Smoke-Free Zones, do they still exist??

Daydreamer hopes & ambitions for the future:
    • To live somewhere with clean air
    • To live somewhere with limited light pollution (I love stargazing)
    • To have a garden big enough to grow trees, especially fruit trees
    • To have a garden big enough for a good sized vegetable/fruit plot
    • To have a garden big enough for some chooks
Sorry, forgot to say welcome to fuddle

Also wondering where/how Better Days is??

The air quality here is pretty good :D, but virtually every other house in this area has a wood burner, so it must be more smoky in the village.

Wood burners are allowed in smokeless zones if they have Defra approval for their design, but that's only half the story. People who burn green or badly-seasoned wood make much more smoke. There's nothing anyone can do about that, unless a quality standard is introduced. :(

Dank air is related to places on the west of the country. While it is often colder in the east during winter time, it's a drier cold.

P.S. You can find Better Days on the hens & ducks thread. People there are a bit less 'pragmatic' than I am when it comes to poultry-keeping, so I stay out of there! :rotfl:

A close neighbour is getting a wood burning stove & I'm dreading it already. Hopefully they will know or be advised not to burn green or badly seasoned wood. I really do sound like an old grump don't I :o I'm not, I think I just need to be in a less populated area, away from people!! :rotfl:

    I didn't know that. I should have just said it's miserable :D

There's a warning for high pollution out at present from Met Office. Air coming up from Sahara, hence the warm weather. Dust and a warning of "blood rain" in Wales.

We got Environmental Health knocking on our door over wood burning. We used smokeless fuel, but it was such a b**ger to get going we used kindling as well as firelighters to light the fire. Some nasty neighbour reported us. :(

    Alfie, I bet you're fracked-off, aren't you? :eek::eek::eek:

Well, after weeks of waiting, I finally managed to order a bath today. :)

Another villager, hearing of our plight, got her building trades son to visit a plumbing wholesaler in East Devon and get a quote from them. As it was about £30 below the one I'd received, I thought it would be a goer.....but I forgot....still Devon, isn't it? :o

So I rang, left message etc, but the guy I needed to speak to didn't return the call......and in the meantime our supplier phoned, pleased that he'd finally sourced this rare commodity.

The rest is obvious....the other company's price was matched and free delivery thrown in. :D

Didn't do so well with British Gas and their insulation. As their surveyor, who'd declined to go into our loft in October due to elfin safety issues hasn't been able to re-book himself, despite trying 3 times, I decided to go direct.

Needn't have bothered. We were 'not on their system,' so I was given a date for a survey of.....wait for it......5th May 2016!!!

So, I'm glad it's a record-breaking December. It can be a warm January, February and March too if it likes. I will have one more go with phoning the surveyor direct, and if that doesn't work, I will have to DIY the most important bits. :(

A friend posted a link on Faceache this afternoon about toxic smog coming to the UK, don't know if it's the same thing maggie??

I would never report a neighbour, I just tend to seethe about things in silence :rotfl: I do wonder if the popularity of woodburners is going to cause problems in the future with so many people getting them though.

Dave, that's so annoying about the BG surveyor  I probably should have enquired about loft insulation when I was asking them about CWI. The guy on the phone said no to CWI (without offering a survey) and I was just so taken aback I didn't think to ask about LI.
