Like Rummer I'm reading but not posting. Having a very stressful time at work and could do with it being summer to get some stress relief from the garden. But not much going on other than trying to fix the leak damage and fit a new loo, redecorate and get things ready for Christmas.
Stay safe everyone in this weather.0 -
oh for a peacefull,stress free 2016 !!
That's quite a big ask for Santa! :xmassmile
A bit of stress is supposed to be good for us, but there are some years when we get much more than a fair share. My thoughts are with those who've had their houses wrecked just before Christmas and who probably can't see a clear way forward right now.
Here, we had a mild, dry day until about 3.30pm, when it all kicked off again and I actually put a jumper on. Barrowing rubble and earth around meant I really didn't need one until it started raining.
Not much news, except that someone calculated the flooring incorrectly, so we only have the second bedroom done at present. With the en-suite just about re-vamped too, that's another room virtually off the to-do list.
No news from electrician, no bath, no word from plumbers about doing the bathroom, but some very good news re a friend's health, so a good day overall.0 -
Morning all,
Piddled down yesterday morning, but then stopped.
As our Stanley can't be put in until at least the new year, hubby is now getting on with gutting the other side of the house, re taking out the floor and ceiling, to speed things on, we are paying a labourer ..
The walls on that side can be re- pointed when we are in there,
Can't do anything to the outside until the spring now, as even though it is mild, know in our luck it will get cold which is no good for the lime ...
I really do need to think about buying some Christmas pressies!!! And things apart from socks, pants and smellies lolWork to live= not live to work0 -
Morning all. Wild and mild here, with wet to follow for dessert. I'm shopping, so it can do what it likes.
We have a new blue bin for food waste, and so do the other 14 properties here, most of which probably need one as they have nothing much else to compost and nowhere to have a heap anyway. [STRIKE]Rubbish[/STRIKE] Landfill is going to a fortnightly collection, like the two types of recycling, so that's now 3 plastic bins and black sacks or wheelies for [STRIKE]rubbish[/STRIKE] non-recyclable waste.
Hmmm....
We saw this coming, so as soon as the second recycle bins arrived, we began pushing for the recycling to be kept separate from the landfill.i.e. on different sides of the entrance splay. Seemed like common sense, especially as the collection vehicles approach from different directions....:A
But not everyone has been amenable to change.
We will see how it goes. At best, there will be around 25 landfill bags, 25 recycle boxes and an unknown quantity of food waste containers on collection days. If some people had their way, these would be all mixed-up on one side of the road.
Then there's the problem of getting people to retrieve them....:(
On the whole, it's fortuitous that we're going to make a different entrance to this house, away from the entrance splay, just like the properties of those who couldn't give a sh*t, because it's not in their back yard. It's only a matter of opening up the original one. Of course, there are those who'll not approve, but as a right of way cannot be extinguished without a deed, they're no problem.0 -
Morning all
Went and very windy here too..it's depressing now, as I really got loads of things I want to do outside! But I must be thankful that we are not going through what the people in Cumbria are going through...
I heard that the government are going to temp waiver the council tax to the houses and businesses effect!! You can imagine the air was deep shade of blue.. As I thought it would be going without saying...not only that what about the government giving them some of the billions they give for foreign aid????
Well did do some crimbo shopping. Is it me or are the shops full if expensive crap?? So I went to the cheap shops to buy cheap crap lol..
Also noticed someone selling Christmas tags on etsy that they must have bought from pound- land...
Hope everyone is OK...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Very cold here.
Bad gales last night & thunder & lightening too. No joiner again but he came eventually & fitted a door - well, nearly fitted a door. It's painful.
I'm sat with my feet in a bowl of hot water.
OH has hospital appointment tomorrow.
I started to paint the utility, but it's a very high ceiling & didn't finish it. I feel a bit too high on the wobbly stepladder. It was warmer up there - all the hot air rising - so some compensation!0 -
DW uses something like this to do the ceilings.....
http://www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/harris-taskmasters-extendable-roller-on-a-pole---2m-708608
.... though when I start them with the first coat, I prefer working from a step ladder.
After living with the Howdens laminate floor in the guest bedroom for 24 hours, we decided not to collect our order for more to lay in the bathroom. It looks very nice, but we don't like the feel of it. Too springy. We only chose it because that room has patio doors and sometimes has 'guest cats' living in it when DD1 stays here. Basically, we have paid a lot for something that feels rather cheap.
Instead, we've purchased more of the Homebase tiles we used for the en-suite. As you know, these are very good value.:)
I think we are forecast to get our share of the rain now. Hope it dries out a bit oop north.0 -

my friends husband has finally agreed to let his wife have a cat !! she doesn't know hes said yes so ive asked if I can give it to her... shes had cats in the past but more feral as they lived in the woods near me..

Alfie, have you tried the cats protection league? What about a British or Russian Blue? They are beautiful cats and I would love one!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0
-
Yes, Dave - I think I'll roller it now as it's looking patchy too. I've never really given rolling much of a go.
OH has to go into hospital on Monday for Tuesday. I don't know how I'm going to get back & forth as yet.
I fell outside today & am feeling rather sore.
It's really very cold indeed.0
