IHS how easy are snow chains to use/put on? Driving in snow I can cope with it is the ice that is dreadful.
The weather here today has been dreadful and a real motivator for getting organised for worse to come.We have been struck with a run of things breaking over the last few weeks and it has cost us greatly which has taken away a lot of the spare pennies I would usually use to winter prep with.To add to that my boots fell to bits and my winter coat started leaking along the shoulder seams so they need to be replaced too.
So we are listing things on Gumtree to sell to generate a bit of extra cash for Christmas and to replace the things we need replaced.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

The videos on Youtube make it look simple - I expect it's a different story when your fingers are frozen and the snow is stinging your face...definitely something to practice before needed!
Here's my new aquarium for the betta fish, Mr Sparkles on the left and Mr Bojangles on the right. The divider is to prevent them fighting0 -
IHS....... are they what I know as Siamese fighting fish ? I know they need to be separated..
had a long day with mum on the IOW visiting sister. mums 84 today.
tad rough crossing from lym to Yarmouth !! tad rougher coming back !!!! im not a sea dog.....0 -
The picture of Dawlish from the article linked to by IHS takes me back to the night in November 2004, when DD2 and I stood on that bridge. The breakers were going over the top then.... .....Gosh, that was over 10 years ago now.
I looked at the credits and saw it was taken by one of my ex-pupils, who became a professional news photographer. He was in my class in 1982.
That's even more scary! :eek:0 -

Did that once in a Force 9. They closed it as soon as we landed. That was a November as well....2001, I think. Luckily, we didn't need to cross back again for a week.
I remember the kids wanted to visit Whale Chine that year, but when we got there, it was so windy I was scared we might be blown off the cliff before we reached the steps. So, we went somewhere calmer, away from the southern coast. Happy days at Blackgang Chine etc. Is it still falling into the sea?
It was quite windy here today, but not remarkable. I was in the loft for most of it, stripping things out, like old junction boxes, redundant pipework etc.
I'm trying to make it look better for the British Gas insulation surveyor, but I'm pretty sure he won't pass it yet. The electricians assured me they would route the high powered cables for shower, induction hob etc to allow them to go over the insulation, but they haven't. They've run them under some of the pipework, which makes changing it very difficult now. They will have to disconnect and re-route.:wall:
I know what will happen; the sparkies will blame the plumbers and vice versa. DW keeps notes, but whether they will tell us who did what........:(
Either way, it's us who won't be insulated, unless I just do it myself. :mad:0 -
morning all
I have my sea or rather land legs back now... im guessing that there wasn't many boats after we landed either !!
I have to come up with a splint type boot for old dog. her back paw doesn't have a lot of feeling and it tucks under sometimes and poor old gal sort of walks on her knuckles. she doesn't seem to care but it worries me it may get sore... so thinking cap on ....
the wind blew a hooley last night, and its not much calmer this morning.. keeps coming in bursts, calm then windy.
im dead on my feet at the mo and got a packed week to go...0 -

As long as it waits until after Christmas...................
Actually more worried about Cowley junction http://www.nce.co.uk/news/water/network-rail-and-environment-agency-clash-over-flood-scheme/8659534.article Not sure if there has been an update on that?
If that goes under then it takes 5 days to get the lines to Exeter and beyond back working under the old regime. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Alfie - I've made a splint for sheep using the grey foam pipe insulation - does the trick & it's soft!
Lovely fish IHS - would like a necklace & earrings like that!
I'm over on the East until tomorrow, but the weather is pretty foul. Still, I've escaped for bit.
I have a chap coming for a tup lamb on Friday - one of the Hebedians so he will have a harem. That will be nice for him. He's only this years but I'm sure he'll get the hang of it!0
