Thats interesting Dave, so you think a laminate may be more practical in a high traffic area? To be honest we know little about flooring, we just want something attractive and very hard wearing.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

The Karndean we have isn't very thick, but there are different types.
If you want to go up another notch, there's Amtico, which can be more expensive than Karndean. MiL has that in her kitchen. It's 20 years old and looks the same as the day it was fitted.
Cheaper, some people have good things to say about Polyflor.
Some mentioned here. I just chose this site at random though>

Rummer we used Wickes laminate in our rental place all through the downstairs. It's commercial quality, not thin and flimsy, I think it was glued so it was safe from spills in the kitchen. But the best thing was price, it was very good value, and three years on it looks good as new.
We used their own underlay, the thin foil type, straight over the existing concrete in the lounge and quarry tiled floor in the kitchen. Originally the kitchen was really cold, being an extension so all external walls, But this has really warmed the floor up.
We're considering it for our house too, for all the downstairs, although I'm not sure it will go with the kitchenso I'm holding off from a decision. That and we're a bit skint! They still sell it though.
Meant to be brighter today than it is, so it's chilly when you stop moving. Nothing a cuppa won't fix0 -

Oh, not just here then. I've been driven indoors by the cold wind. I was block-laying again and I couldn't move enough to stay warm.
It was OK this morning. After my flu jab and a trip to the village Market, just to buy, not sell, I felled a tree that prevented me from laying much hedge last spring. Back then, I was too cold to go up a ladder, but this morning it was just right.
I will have to tackle the ash trees along the road in a similar way, because they're leaning over it. I thought they'd have dropped dead by now with ash dieback, but there's no sign of it here.
Saw Mr Rod last night, who's coming next week to start rendering, at last. :jThere's talk of a harder winter so it can't be too soon.:eek:0 -
I'm not liking this talk of a harsh winter, having just bought another rear wheel drive car again lol. Not much doing in my garden but I'm waiting on a very large leylandi hedge being taken out!0

We have been steadily preparing for a hard winter (as we do every year) by making sure that we are stocked up with plenty of food for both people and animals, lots of bottled water, full medical kit and an array of general winter supplies for the home and car. Not to mention more candles (and matches) than we will ever sensibly use :rotfl:
In previous years we have been without heating, without water, unable to get out and sick at various times so I have taken to preparing, not to the extreme but a few extra bits and pieces that will make our lives more comfortable if the weather becomes extreme.
Still need to find a long winter waterproof coat and a couple of extra jumpers but I am keeping my eyes open for the right ones.
It seems to be quite difficult to find decorators in our area, we have been phoning round trying to get quotes and so far not one person has answered or replied  I suppose they are busy at this time of year on the run up to Christmas however I was hoping to at least get a couple of quotes and to book them in for when they are free.
We did look at flooring today and have a couple of people coming out to measure and quote for what we are hoping for so at least that part is going wellTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
