Autumn Spire sounds like it should require Planning Permission IHS. Did it get posted?

It's a slow growing rowan, I hope! Yep, was couriered in a 8' cardboard box.

Will do more on managing the wet border today. I've been quite successful in digging angled channels every 5' or so, draining into the deep gully alongside the lawn and then into the French drain. Each 'block' of the bed is getting isolated from ground water coming down the slope and is drying out.

I'm thinking about changing one of the honeysuckles on the pergola, once the perpetual sweet-pea dies back. It gets mildew and other fungus so easily and looks a mess. Maybe the white form of Akebia quinata, the chocolate vine?

Well the builders turned up in the pooring rain, and are still there making loads of concrete to fill the floor...

Stopped raining now, but its only a short break in the weather, as its given it bad again for later on.. Someone did say its bad for next week too...

Got my follow up blood test on Thursday re- liver...so will prob be talking a LOAD of crap while they are doing it, to take my mind off the needle.. Lol

Haven't done much today, been quite lazy, just mooching on the internet, with the cats snuggled up to me on the sofa...

FK -Really sorry you are having neighbour probs. That' not a good & not uncommon.

Glad you managed to have some respite. It can feel like you don't know where you live. You just have to make your self go somewhere different one day a week & play at being a tourist on your own door sometimes.

IHS -we are inundated with Rowans naturally having self seeded. I must google your one to have a peek. Some really nice different coloured berries ones. There's 4 planted at Braemore that turn scarlet in the autumn. I don't know what they are called but would love one. The berries are all reddening on the ones here.

Alfe - sorry about old sheep. Jacobs are lovely & quite thrifty I would think. Hope it goes well for move day with Mum. It is a big things after all that time.

CTC - hope that the builders are getting on well & the blood test is smooth as silk. They get easier especially if you don't look.

Lucielle - Great meeting you & all your lovely family. It was wonderful & very de stressing being away from here for the week & the stunning weather & beautiful landscape - we had a really good holiday. Not long in & feel jiggered now.
Hairy cat nipped out & brought in a fat water vole.... that was errrr thoughtful of him.

Terrible news of the plane crash & all those poor migrants. What a mess the world is in.

Quick snap of the back garden. Removed some of the lowest branches of the willow to give more light to the ferns etc. Torn down the climbers from the back fence which were going nowhere. Should have Chelsea chopped the shasta daises, they have flopped in the rain. Don't like the pink-red of these cannas. I'd hoped the pergola would have been covered by now, but weather has been so poor. Apart from that, all good! :D

Ah, it's all making sense now, that pre-holiday panic about tidying! :rotfl:
    What a lovely thing to do....and so MSE!:AObviously worked-out a treat.

Don't think we are quite up for a house-sit yet, though if the leccytricians get all we want done tomorrow, things might begin to improve. I've been a bit out of the loop rounding-up all the stuff they might need, as things like exterior lights. bathroom lighting etc need a bit of personal input.

The Karndean went down in the kitchen yesterday and it all looks great, but with no appliances working, or present in most cases, it's now a bit of an off-white heffalump. :undecided'Something' will happen this coming week, but I don't see a final sign-off for maybe another month or two. :(

We've had the sort of rain in the past 12 hours that we've missed all summer, so the stream is running well and the parched hedgerows will be feeling the benefit at last. I've put quite a few new hazels into the lower hedge, and although they've been there well over 18months their survival has been touch & go.

No word today from Pete about digging out for the new oil tank base, but I don't want a pond just now anyway. :rotfl:

Could be worse....BiL is rendering today!

The 'Spanish plume' has arrived over Scotland, it's over 20C! 'Taps aaf' indeed.

Need more stuff for the fish, well actually the plants...glutaraldehyde. It sort of makes up for the depletion of CO2 in the water which encourages algae to grow.

I think we've had the 'Welsh Plume' for the last 15 hours, but I saw a patch of blue sky a minute ago. :D

Last night, the forecast rain began as we left for our fish & chip supper, but heading south, we outran it. :p

Ate the F&C in a valley not far from Crediton, whilst watching a small herd of deer making their way slowly towards the nearby woodland. It had been raining there, but dry and very warm throughout our short visit.

Returning home, we found it had been raining heavily here....and it's only just stopped.
