Anyone grow Aralia Elata, the Japanese Angelica Tree? I'm tempted, the spines at each leaf are a novelty.
Looks like I have alkaline soil...this is the east corner at the front of house, so only gets the morning sun. The hydrangea was in a fleece over-winter which I think has paid off as the buds didn't get damaged.
Newly planted fastigate Rowan 'Autumn Spire', squeezed into a tight space.0 -
Thanks all - it's a mess in there.
I don't yet know why it's happened. Good (fingers crossed) Plumber will come tomorrow. I don't know if this airlock thing is connected to this or if it's an ex-plumber !!!! up or what but we are getting him to come & check the whole system out as this is scarily bad - I nearly didn't go in the little loo - only went in as a new valve had arrived for cistern & I optimistically was going to look to see if I could figure out if it was the valve that was at fault when I saw all the water rushing down the wall.
Midgies horrendous today. Have a sheep with very sore eyes where she's rubbing & rubbing them - just back from being up to put some Sudafed on her lids but I might get the vet to come as I'm not liking the look of it at all.
Even the byre seems infested with them this evening = just scratching no pun intended) my head as to what I can put up there as a deterrent.
Dave hope the stuff packed away is not all damaged - which it won't be. It's a pain is this building lark & having stuff packed away.
OH went for his blood thing but he was late & they said he'd have to go another day. He had phoned before he left to say he was running late - cause of the water thing. He got there late & they wouldn't let him get seen to. I was pretty upset about this as it's an almost 70 mile round trip. I phoned in with a complaint - now I look like a beech but it's not cricket. They said Mondays are very busy but they should have said when he phoned to say he'd be late. Whinge whinge whinge.
There was 3 emergencies & not enough staff on to cover- think it's the cut backs. Quite scary as the place triples in size at this time of year with holidoids.
Alfie - you rest up. It's a tiring thing house moves -really jiggering.
Hope Mum is fine with the change & move.
Sorry to hear of all the wet weather down there. Did chuck it down late afternon & night but was nice earlier.
IHS - What size of garden do you have?0 -
Flipping heck choille, a nightmare, hope the new plumber can sort it all out for you, wise move to get new p!umber to check plnker p!umbers work...
Well... We are now dog owners again!!!!
Well if can call it a dog lol... As I have seen bigger rats!! Its a jacawawa..puppy 8 weeks old and it is tiny, basically its a cross jack Russell and a chawawa sp????
It is sooo comical, I know it is so far from the Doberman we had, and the other dogs I have had in the passed but that was what we wanted ( well youngest and me, hubby would have another Doberman any time lol)
Haven't named it yet.. As we are seeing what name fits it so to speak..
Will post a PIC later/ tomorrowWork to live= not live to work0 -
hubby would have another Doberman
Could help the jackawawa get about...IHS - What size of garden do you have?
Small, there's just a lot in it!0 -
Luciano Waggalotti? Jose Boninio? I think I'm getting my Spanish/Mexican and Italian muddled up here...:o
How about Rambo?
He looks super, and better off without the waggly ears when it comes to undergrowth.;)
Hope Good Plumber can perform miracles for you today, choille. You could really do with one. Dodgy hug..:grouphug:
Electricians came yesterday and found it difficult connecting-up all the kitchen stuff, especially that which isn't there! Why am I not surprised? It would have made more sense to cut plugs off , but apparently one cannot do that and easily maintain the warranty.
Nevertheless, we have power/light in much more of the house now and a promise of more on Friday.
Looking across the land yesterday, I spotted a gap I'd not seen before and concluded that one of the mature oak trees up by Mr Dog had begun to lean more than usual. When I went up there, I couldn't see any obvious movement in the trunk area, but now I've looked properly, it's obvious that the tree is on a growth trajectory which will end in a fall, just like the Chinese economy. I will have to get Pete to drop it before it takes out the fence. That'll please you-know-who! :rotfl:
Speaking of China etc, I'm glad I sold the shares, took my money and ran!0 -
:DCTC - wonderful you've got a new member of your family. Couldn't see the link photo when I tried but sounds very characterful. You'll be knitting him wee hats & jackets & stuff?;)
Will be a bit easier to tread on than a Dobbie.;)
How about Quinn - as in the Mighty Quinn [sp?]
CTC - my page has gone all large & just scrolled along and saw the wee chap - awwwwwwwwwwwwww. What a sweetie pie. Hairy Cat would soon eat him. But he's lurvley.
IHS - You have quite a selection & are very organised. Did you dig the drains you mentioned yourself?
Do you grow veg?
Dave Glad you are making headway albeit not as fast as you hoped. I think it gets more stressful the nearer you get to finishing - or is that just me.
Plumber arrived & mate & they have found the prob which is bad workmanship basically & cutting corners. Could have been much worse if I hadn't seen it or if I'd gone with OH. The floor would have been ruined - we laid a nice floor in there but that seems okay.
Plumber's mate having to cut a hatch in plasterboard to get at stuff but we'll make it into an access hatch.
We've asked him to write down what is wrong & remedial work required & check the whole system - not that it's finished but I think we will have a legal jobbie - it's a pain, but we've had such bother the ex-plumber is a reet cowboy.
Sheep's eyes seem slightly better this morning so I've held back on getting the vet to call - saved about £100 there - which isn't the reason but it does all add up. I'll keep on with the barrier cream & keep a close eye on her eye - aye aye...............0 -
Aaarrgghh! No hot water! Leccytrician's apprentice stripped the cable out.......just used up all the old ...and then realised. :mad:0

Sorry Dave - It's one of those stresses.
New plumber has found 50 faults - 25 units but had to take them all apart & replace stuff. He showed me some of the pipes that had been sawn squint - just ridiculous incompetency & he's actually taken photos of it all.
He will be back tomorrow to do other stuff. The wee loo is totally ruined decor wise but I suppose we were lucky I found it so quickly.0 -

The stress of no hot water is as nothing to your hassles.
As regards rogue plumber, I'm thinking, "Where there's blame there's a claim," but, as lir knows, claiming's only the start....:(0 -
Hi all,
Flipping heck choille that's alot of faults found re plumbing..
I know its awful what's happened re- toilet room, and it will have to be re- done decorating etc, but what if it didn't happen now, then you might not have found those other 50 potential hazards etc...
Davesnave..when will they do the electrics now that they bollloooks up???
Well little Missy( still haven't named her yet) is a doll lol, took her to work today, and she was really good...amongst all the stress we are going through at the moment..re the end if an era with work etc, even though she has only been with us 24 hrs, she is a little ray of sunshine..a total distraction watching her little antics best theorpy ...
