Went down the croft with hairy cat - he's getting the hang of this crofting lark. He's so much more happy, it's wonderful to see.
So glad you have a 'hairy cat' too. He'll really be apprecating his new life, I'm sure.
Lila, AKA "Fluffy" is what we call our "dog cat." She is usually there, ready to go and let the chickens out in the morning, bounding along, just like a dog.
The other day she came for a walk with us to the other end of the land, but got confused and thought Mr Dog's house must be ours. She started making towards it in the wildlife area there, when the dogs kicked-off, and then she knew that wasn't right.
Other things that haven't been 'right' this week: a man with a beard (SIL) and a baby (grandson Sam.) Took off when she saw them, even though a 6' guy with a Kango hammer is just everyday stuff to her now. :rotfl:
Desdemona will be best potted, phoebe. That's what we used to tell customers, who'd wail that theirs had 'vanished!'0 -
I feel exactly the same as that regarding people who see certain jobs as 'beneath' them.
I don't care what qualifications someone has, if they can't support themselves wth a job of their own finding/making they should take whatever's going and shut-up!:p:p:p
That's my rant over.
My rather 'well to do' side of the family are very, very firm on this and strongly agree with you. The 'rules' are one does not employ some one to do something you are not prepared to do your self. Your staff and employees are not there to do things you won't do but things you can't for want of time, experience, knowledge or ability etc. and the relationships should be of mutual respect. That said, any taking the !!!! gets pretty clamped down upon..

There was a moment this week where coming home from 'the lake' with the geese through the drive way I looked up to see people giggling and I wondered if they were laughing at what might look like a fetish for white animals. It was the geese, kiwi, pink whistley and mauve squeaker and I, so all the critters were white ( ish). I suppose that's quite amusing?0 -
morning all...
woke up crack of dawn ! couldn't get back to sleep so have started to sort my junk heap in another shed... haven't been in there since I moved
glad you found the doors choille :T
ive just read the trip advisor revues for hotel we were in by guests we were there with and im so cross !
why do they expect the ritz for a fraction of the price.. they flouted rules re alcohol [every night even tho asked NOT to drink outside ,only in their room] one kept going in the kitchen and cooking meals ? acting like the place would fall apart if they weren't there.? poor manager was scared of losing his job if he complained and they then potentially could lose him his job by complaining ??
why go to a country that has rules and treat the staff like personal slaves when they go out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as "owners" allow them to. they work for a pittance but its a JOB ... and they take pride in it. stupid things they moan about I feel like saying "go to Benidorm, not Marrakesh" if you want maccy D's and cheap plonk....
yes there are "the poor" but to advise not walking the streets is a personal slight on a country they CHOSE to go to ? theres enough info on line to advise of the suitability of a country/place. I hate people who are so full of self importance that they think they are superior to anyone else. the difference being that boasting and being gratefull are worlds apart ...
sorry to vent off but thinking people are better/above others is not high on my list !

Thanks Dave, yes Desdemona is definitely destined for a pot
It's actually a stone (reconstituted, but now quite well aged!) bird bath type on a pedestal that we've had for years, planted up with a dwarf conifer and bedding plants. She should look very nice in that
I have a mytery plant here that I'll put a pic up at some point over the weekend for identification purposes.....it has me stumped at the moMortgage-free for fourteen years!

Torrential rain here...
Spoke too soon about positive news from parentsDad's been readmitted to hospital this morning with sepsis, no doubt triggered by a UTI. Can't recall when he was discharged, maybe 28th May? It seems 99% sure there's an issue with bladder which is root cause.
Now considering the options with mum being discharged herself on Monday, not that they expected dad to help with her care in any way. Am thinking respite care may be best, will speak to social services.0 -

Aflie there are no pleasing some people....
Went to small auction and took some plants, I was getting good prices, until the heavens opened up half way through my lots and then the prices dropped like a sack of poo lol. But over all I was really pleased, also given me some more ideas lol..
Home alone now, eldest is staying over his mates house, and hubby and youngest are on their way to a HA party...
So now I can eat ice cream ALL to myself lolWork to live= not live to work0 -
Looking over what we have a choice since we have been here and I have to admit, I'm disappointed.
Two (?) summers out for me have impacted seriously. Things achieved have been undone and that is really frustrating.
The herb garden looks good! but I can easily kill half an hour or so messing around in their each day, weeding, primping etc.....and it could do with a good half day solid spent in there. It makes you realise how much time you can 'lose' in things.0 -
Had a lovely day off today, well sort of! It was the Toby garden festival recce, in Wiltshire right where I used to live, so another long day and a nice trip down memory lane.
My sis still lives there so I picked her up and we went together. Bless her she doesn't even have a garden, just a little balcony over the river, and things don't really survive there...I'm wondering if I could make a planter up for her with minimum maintenance so she hasn't got to worry if she forgets about it sometimes?!
Well the event was interesting, not that busy when we got there but definitely got busier. It was a nice day but windy, perhaps putting people off slightly. There wasnt a huge amount to see, we had been all the way round within an hour, and heard another couple comment about how many times they could go round.
There was also a lot of repetition of stalls, esp for plants so I don't think the nurseries will have done too well unless they were the cheapest. And the stands were laid out in a strange way, spread out a bit too much, but I think they've left themselves room to grow. I'll wait and see what the prices are like but I could be tempted to have a stand next year.
Dave did you say your good lady went to the Devon tobyfest? What was the overall opinion? I remember you saying pitches were cheaper, I'd be interested to see what visitor numbers were like compared to the first year...
I did manage to get in a bit of shoppingI could have bought a lot more but felt a bit overloaded at the thought of trailing round all the stalls comparing prices and pot sizes for the same things.
So In the end I got a few perennials BUT got two big things on my wish list, a laburnum and a white mulberry, both weeping standards, and both for just £45 - bargain of the year!
I can't buy one tree at the local garden centre for that price, so that pretty much made my dayI've been after these for ever.
Well neighbour is still being a **** there must be at least 15 tonnes of carp piled up by the boundary now. but I saw a solicitor yesterday, and a letter is being drafted to set our position in black and white. I have also sent a further report to the council enforcement officer after a quick chat - apparently neighbour hadn't necessarily done anything wrong with the digger etc UNTIL he started tipping stone chippings where the digger has cleared a field access track - that requires permission which he doesn't have... The enforcement officer was very helpful, even though I disliked him for coming after mebut that gave me insider info and he knew it
 we shall see
I'm Going to struggle to stay awake til chickens bed time, I was out til 10.30 last night, I'm just going to have to persuade everyone to have an early night!0
