Lovely evening with me, first for a long, long time so am typing away sitting under the awning
After the success of my jury-rigged rain cover for the aloes and agaves, I've bought a 190cm wide 'door canopy' in plexiglass. This'll fit above the kitchen window between the garage and conservatory and give some shelter to where I have the coldframe below the window. Of course, rain in Scotland rarely falls vertically but it'll help...
Popped into Aldi 1st thing yesterday, box ball for £9.99, ficus and a couple of grasses; pheasant tail grass isn't reliably hardy this far north so took a chance planting on bed of grit.
Bit of a surprise, but hospital are letting mum home on Monday, all-be-it with a lot of care as she's not able to walk unaided and looks like that'll not improve. I guess it's sensible to give her and dad one more shot at home before the care home becomes the only option.0 -
I have the rose wollerton old hall.
. Dh wants a meconopsis bed. I've never had any luck with them.

Found the missing kitchen unit doors - boy is that a relief. They'd been put under my huge Victorian wind out table - the table is on it's side on top of the three doors - strange place to put it, but there you go.
My Mother used to grow Meconopsis, but only after years of being not very successful - I think she used to put them in the fridge? It's at times like this I wish she were still here & lucid to ask.
Weather very mixed - all seasons in one day - again. Went down the croft with hairy cat - he's getting the hang of this crofting lark. He's so much more happy, it's wonderful to see.0 -

We planted The Wollerton Old Hall rose at the Wilts houseThey had them for sale there today (and less expensive than the roses we purchased from David Austin at Albrighton too!), but we have so many roses here already that we decided not to get one
At our house down on the South Coast we tried growing Meconopsis and also had no luck......thought we'd give it another go here! Usually we buy three/five of everything, but they only had one of these so no huge loss if it fails!
Dave, I know - we don't do things the easy way.....in any respect, lol! The Desdemona is going in a tall planter so maybe it'll be safe from slugs
IHS, good news about your mum coming home
Choille, glad to hear the unit doors turned up safely!Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

Morning all,
Been heavy rain here this morning, skies still grey, but brightening up.
Going to small poultry/crap auction today, so going to take some plants etc..
Chicks, chickens and geese we bought on Thursday are doing great. Didn't realise how much I had missed not having chickens ...
Choille glad you found them, there is nothing more maddening not being able to find something.
Right quick cuppa, and them have a mooch around the garden to see what is ready to take to sell,
Catch you all layersWork to live= not live to work0 -
4kg of Epsom Salts arriving today, not for me for the plants! Noticed all the evergreens (box, bay, camellia, ceanothus,...) look a bit yellowed, I think all the water has leached the soil so a foliar feed may perk them up.
Back to wind and rain, getting annoying now.0 -
morning all...
woke up crack of dawn ! couldn't get back to sleep so have started to sort my junk heap in another shed... haven't been in there since I moved
glad you found the doors choille :T
ive just read the trip advisor revues for hotel we were in by guests we were there with and im so cross !
why do they expect the ritz for a fraction of the price.. they flouted rules re alcohol [every night even tho asked NOT to drink outside ,only in their room] one kept going in the kitchen and cooking meals ? acting like the place would fall apart if they weren't there.? poor manager was scared of losing his job if he complained and they then potentially could lose him his job by complaining ??
why go to a country that has rules and treat the staff like personal slaves when they go out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as "owners" allow them to. they work for a pittance but its a JOB ... and they take pride in it. stupid things they moan about I feel like saying "go to Benidorm, not Marrakesh" if you want maccy D's and cheap plonk....
yes there are "the poor" but to advise not walking the streets is a personal slight on a country they CHOSE to go to ? theres enough info on line to advise of the suitability of a country/place. I hate people who are so full of self importance that they think they are superior to anyone else. the difference being that boasting and being gratefull are worlds apart ...
sorry to vent off but thinking people are better/above others is not high on my list !0 -
Morning everyone, blue skies with clouds starting to pass across here. But I'm at the hairdressers this morning and have shopping to do, so I don't have much outdoors time today anyway.
Alfie, I know exactly what you mean. I think people put reviews on and turn into monsters whilst writing them!0 -

I feel exactly the same as that regarding people who see certain jobs as 'beneath' them.
I don't care what qualifications someone has, if they can't support themselves wth a job of their own finding/making they should take whatever's going and shut-up!:p:p:p
That's my rant over.0 -

Yes, I picked up 3kg in the horse section at Mole Valley Farmers a few weeks ago for my toms. In my case it was just neglect.
Unfortunately, I seem to have been left with lots of toms, due to bad weather for gate selling (too windy) and them not being ready early enough.
Before, I've taken some to the church Plant Sale, but last year I wasn't made terribly welcome, as others had put out their stuff and no one was very keen to give me a space.(This is ignoring the fact that it was a plant sale and several tables were taken up with tat, like old videos and chipped vases!)
Anyway, this year I didn't even go to it as a customer, so now someone up there is probably punishing me!0
