Progress CTC! :T Good that your end wall doesn't need a rebuild. :D

There are always compromises. Here, we've no reason to do anything other than UPVC, so that's not a choice we needed to make.

No idea about fake chimneys, but I know they're fitted to some new builds. What will you do for flues? Surely you will need chimneys for those?

More gardening leave today as we have another village market tomorrow and, once again, we've not much to dress a stall with. :o

the chinmleys are still there, we have just capped for now.. and put temp slates over.. but I thought as they need lining, the 'silver pipe' would still come out of the top.. with the 'fake' chinmley around??? or isn't this possible?? it was just a thought, to save building new ones...

maybe it is build them back then... as the house doesn't look right without them lol..

Edit... I have prob heard about them, and I am assuming they just 'plonk' on top, over any pipes like a 'decrative casing' ..

    scrap that idea then... lol

The ones I mentioned are just decorative. You'll want to get your flues done to HETAS standards to have them signed-off, so I think a 'proper' chimney would be a must.

Might be possible to design/build something less heavy, though. I'm thinking perhaps one layer of thermalite block and a stone surround tied-in to that.

    But I'm no expert! :o:o

when we spoke to the heating guy,( th initial one) for a guide price etc, he did say the chimnleys will have to be lined etc, but now that my parents are buying us the cooker/range that firm will do all the installation etc... I just want to know what I can do on the 'outside' so as you say it might be worth speaking to those people direct.. now that I know who is installing it etc..

honestly I am not a silly/stupid as I sound sometimes on here lol, I tend to 'think out loud' on here.. lol

    IHS,

Sorry to hear about your mother. Best wishes.

All week its been beautiful. Today I planned to get back in garden, after popping out with my mother. All dressed up in smart new summer shoes, tootsies out, nice dress......and its frreeeeeeeezing. Much colder than it was when I woke, and now the rain is coming down in fat, slow drops. Loitering in nice shoes ( but wrapped in a blanket) till I decide what to do instead ( and put my feet back in fleecey boots for warmth!)

Thanks, seems mum has picked up an infection so will be kept in while that is resolved; more positively there's been no detrimental effect on placing of stents. There was a worry about internal bleeding.

I picked up two of the M&S mocha bowls, down from £49 to £16, and used them for carex, New Zealand Hair Sedge or possibly the weeping form. I'd been using these for ground cover as they grow super quick quick with me. I wanted to put in other plants and it seemed a shame to just bin them.

Also took the fleece off the hydrangea on the left, pleased to see non of the buds are blackened as they were last year. Left the branches tied together in case it needs to go back on PDQ!

Very sorry to hear your mum is still unwell IHS, but definitely agree that hospital is the best place for her as it would be too much for your poor dad to cope with. I know that this was the case when my mum was taken ill back in early 2012, my dad (who was having his own issues with cataract ops) was unable to cope - even with the care package we had arranged - so when mum was discharged from hospital she went into temporary respite care for a couple of weeks. Sending hugs to you all x

BD, hugs to you guys, especially Old Dog and your other sick doggie too.....thinking of you all x

We had a really lovely day at Antiques for Everyone yesterday.....saw loads of amazing pieces that we just couldn't justify buying (mainly large Art Nouveau maiden statues) as this place is full to bursting point already, lol :rotfl: We went armed up with a mental list of things we do need and came away with a couple of these - of particular note a wonderful original 1890s door knob and matching finger plate complete with AN maiden's face on both - perfect for the inside of our front door! Will be fitting that this afternoon between painting kitchen units :D Saw our friends on their stand and spent ages catching up, which was lovely as we've not seen them for a while :)

Then we had to drive home through Birmingham rush hour, which was not so nice :o

Gorgeous weather here again - but definitely chillier - all the potted tulips are out and the main wisteria is getting closer to flowering.....yay! Later on we're going to get one of the garden benches up onto the balcony and sit out there with a G&T ;)

Just come in from the garden, trying to get as much done as I reckon this sunny weather will end with us later today. The warmth since Easter means the garden has finally got going.

Shaken out two pots which had tulips in them last year. I didn't expect them to form flower buds again, given the Scottish weather, and sure enough they were coming up blind. Tulips definitely need to be treated as annuals here!

My colour combinations for pots are going to be a bit hit-and-miss this year. being based what I have been stocking up on rather than giving any great thought.

Anyhow, off to visit mum now before the traffic builds up on the motorway.

IHS - I have the same problem up here too. However, I planted new tulips in a planter last autumn and they all came up blind! Hope your Mum gets better soon.

Not had a chance to be on here recently as I have been caught up with family things and now busy preparing for my 3 grandsons coming on Sunday for a week.

However, have spent the morning having a general tidy up in the garden. My daffodils have been magnificent. Spent loads of time deadheading the ones that have gone over. At least the same to do again. I don't like the next few weeks when I am waiting for the daff leaves to die down before I plant out the summer bedding!
