Dave, H*wd*ns rep insisted on talking to the builder earlier this week even though I told him he was up on the roof fixing the chimney. I thought it must be something important but all it was was that the rep had seen the van on the drive and wanted to tell the builder about the new catalogue.:mad:[/QUOTE]

I wouldn't touch H*w**ns with a barge pole. The bloke came here and just talked to OH even when OH said "talk to The Boss, she's got the money". <roll eyes smiley> Ignored me completely!

We went to local guy just down the road, who was endlessly patient with me changing mind etc when we were planning. And helpful since when we had probs with the bin thingy that got stuck. The really great thing was I just saw something in his shop that was totally totally different to what I thought I wanted. That's what we have, and he was very helpful with ideas of what to go with it. I know some folks like H..... But I was totally put off, and our local guy was brill. I think his pricing OK too, certainly all the appliances he matched or did better than internet prices. :)
  • 'according' to the article in the local rag, the fire started in the attic just above his bedroom, which he was only in 10 mins before... and there were 100 people in the pub at the time.. it took 6 hrs to put the fire out.. according to the article we would be open for Saturday's international...

is that an aroma of a rat I smell??

had the fencing guys back today and tomorrow, as we needed a bit more fencing done down by the bottom kissing gate.. so this should stop anymore horses and motorbikes going around the gate etc.. as I know I haven't got the time, while they had the mini diggers there, I have had them to scrape the top of the other side garden, and level it out of all the lumps and bumps.. there are two distinct diff in soil, so I will post some pics later, and see what you think Davesnave

I am rather short sighted -11 in one eye, -14 in the other. To give you an idea most online sellers of glasses only go up to about -6. At this prescription the lenses would be very thick, and heavy so I get the 'high index' version which is more expensive, but much thinner and lighter. I also need astigmatism in both eyes corrected. Due to ME I am very light sensitive so need photo-chromatic lenses which go dark in sunlight. Now I am getting older I also need varifocal lenses too.

The opticians could only source this prescription without the photo-chromatic for over £500. That was why I was so pleased when Anglia Ruskin kindly made up the prescription for me with the photo-chromatic for £250. Not many people need such a prescription so there are no economies of scale in making them up. I am just grateful my sight can be corrected. 100 years ago my quality of life would have been dreadful due to poor sight...
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Varifocals cost a lot. :( But I find they very useful both in car (can see the buttons to use on dashboard as a passenger) and also in shops - can read the price tags in Oxfam, plus can read at least some of the small print in supermarkets (not that I visit them very often).

I don't know how you got to talk to H*wd*ns in the first place, as they're trade only. They don't really talk to me much, food or no food. :( They give me notebooks and pencils virtually every time I go in, though. :)

They're good for some things at the right price, and pretty poor for others. I had a look at their door furniture, but then sourced better elsewhere via the builder, saving £195. Their taps were just silly money. I think they should stick to wood.

Like you, and Better Days, I need a fairly complex prescription for specs and the thinnest lenses, so it's never cheap. I'm putting new ones off as well, but I can see OK with both pairs. I have those virtually indestructible frames on my bifocals, fortunately, considering how often they fly off! :o I hate varifocals, so the other pair are plain lense computer specs.

Maybe you can see the area where they used to empty the lavvy in the old days, shown by different coloured soil.
I know the Outlaws garden is like that, with some really dark soil in the relevant area.

    Emptying ashes too. ;)

Of course, you had mining too near you. So did Outlaws, but none in their village.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Fir's glasses are exoensive too. He reuses frames for years. His ultra thin lenses are still too thick for lots of frames! So the ultra thin is less indulgent expense that it might sound. His are also varifocals.

Sometimes when I'm feeling a little naughty I move them onto the far side of his bedside table before he wakes up, hehehehehe.
