Cor, what a difference a change in wind direction makes! A bitter north-wester here this morning, but no workmen trudging to our front door, so a chance to shift down a gear.
I really feel for you, choille. Days like this show me we've had this renovation lark easy most of the time. It's only when the cold wind kicks in that we notice all the holes around the new, unplastered ceilings, sucking all the warm air out into the uninsulated loft....and awaaaaay!
The ceiling in the utility room's OK though. That's been skimmed, along with some walls, so we should finish in there next week. My office will be done too, along with the hallway.
Contrary to what I imagined, Mr Rod and his crew won't be working the weekend here, but probably turning-up next Wednesday for a couple of days.
One more Panto to go! Last night was fine again, with everyone working like a well-oiled machine, though in my case it was 'cos I had rather too much whisky in my water bottle.:rotfl:

morning all,
talking about whiskey... the driver of the big dumper lorry brought me a bottle of whiskey yesterday, for having a go at him at 7am in the morning, he dumped a load of hardcore right next to our house ( on the land they are clearing) and you would swear he had dumped it in the house with all the noise of the lorry. I did tell him I know he is only doing his job but he could have dumped further away like the other loads, or waited a little bit later...
re- fence panels..... thy have give us 5 as a 'good will guesture'
ALFIE... a VERY long shot, but we are looking for something like these

we have looked at portacabins etc, but its hard getting a small one, that isn't leaking, or damp etc..Work to live= not live to work0 -
Sharp frost overnight, so only conservatory plants are getting attention. Put up this plant theatre, I was going to paint to match the wall but may not bother.
The two terracotta bowls with the cacti were sold as canary nest pans, but I drilled a drainage hole in each and I think they'll do fine.
All the aloes and the agave Americana were offsets I planted up last year.
Top left is non-prepared white hyacinth, hence very late growth0 -

Well that's something, I suppose.
But why all this emphasis on messing about with the site, I wonder? Have they actually started doing anything with the building yet?
As I said before, this could go a number of ways, and not all of them bad.
I'd be looking for wildlife groups, who might informally monitor what's going on...;)0 -
They are 'tarting' up the factory too, and they keep telling the council and anyone who asks, that they haven't decided what to do with it yet, ye right. They have had the electric board in laying new cables from the main road into the factory, and the waterboarding there too. You don't do all that work, spend mega dish on something you don't know what you are going to do with yet.Rumours are it going to be a car boot/market type place.as people are saying the owners own a big indoor market else where.Work to live= not live to work0

If it's always been manufacturing, it won't have the licensing for public access or retail - end of.
(Unless those who were going to use it previously had permissions changed)0 -
CTC - I would contact your local authority Roads Department which will be based within the Planning Department = possibly. Get the low down from them what would be allowed & what wouldn't = these people have more authority on thwarting planning applications than a lot of others. Alot depends on visiblity - distant from bends that you can see clearly. A car boot/market type venue is a 'bad neighbour' & that would be looked at vigourously, but you do also need to get your local councillor on board.
Here - in Scotland - if enough people object - more than 4, then it has to go to committee - which is the local Community council decides on the application - (people with no training in housing at al! But that's another gripe of mine) So you need to act now before any plans are lodged to lay the fears & alert people to the possibility of what may be a bad neighbourhood plight. With this being election year - you can always get your local MP on board too. But do it & soon.0 -
Well I'm awake. Not terribly energetic but awake. We only managed to shift a bag and a bit of that top soil so far this morning, but its quite enough for me.
. I'm going back to sleep lol.
I'm going to have to move a philadelphus leaving the front of the house quite bare having moved the big buddleia ( which is very happy in the back thank goodness). My planting in the front has been a bit 'shove it in, will worry later' and its starting to show now.
Really want to tackle the rest of that front area but have a few undecide things. E.g. I like the privet hedge between us and next door, but not the brambles and ivy. Its a shared boundary and tackling from one side not effective. I don't really want to fence, but might be simpler.
Also, plant budget.....
Any way, going to nap now.0 -
council haven't had ANY planning application put in yet..
so maybe they are tarting it up first, before putting applicaqtion in..or they know a loophole???
who knows...Work to live= not live to work0
