Oh, meant to say....not saying a market is a good idea, just thinking how it might be possible or not? I don't think any retail type business there would be great being so near houses. But it will depend on who's buying, some might hate the thought of a factory, with HGVs all day and shift workers in and out. Some might not mind a market that's busy a couple of times a week and quiet the rest, as opposed to a retail unit that could be busy all day every day, very much depends on the lifestyles, work patterns etc.
Renters are less fussy and the rental market is good locally, so investors get a good return, have you considered marketing the house as a BTL investment opportunity?
But def think waiting to sell until you know what Is going on is your best bet, the uncertainty will put people off.
IF a planning app goes in for whatever you could maybe try and get the landscaping addressed, ie get some planting back to shelter you, and screen off the development, a lot of commercial schemes are required to do something like that.
Out of interest, How did you feel when the supermarket was approved? I remember a lot of work went on to get the site clear and then the build. How has it affected you/house prices etc is it what you thought?0 -
Hi CTC, Higgledy is doing a pack of half price cut flower seeds today, but you have to order by midnight tonight. Sorry a bit late putting this up, had a nap this afternoon after not being able to sleep last night.0

hi all.... dismal day here today
FK... be carefull that by putting in all this willow on the bank that you dont give the wind an excuse to pull the bank down ! if as you say a fence wouldnt last re the wind, then rocking plants youve planted may do just this. a friend [iow] had same problem and it brought down the small tree's AND the high bank [had to have diggers in to remove fall and debris] she had it wire netted after that and shallow alpine plants there now............ do you find it a problem rotating grazing for goats, pigs, sheep on your small plot ? at the moment weve opened up 15 acres to avoid "overkill".. i seem to remember someone telling me that certain animals shouldnt graze after certain others but cant remember what order it was now..:o if i remember rightly CTC was in shock re the supermarket build as the land was not thought to ever be built on but a bit of skullduggery seemed to "let it be built".... i dont envy them.. to have thier home life changed virtually overnight is not nice..

Stabilising banks with planting is fairly standard practice, but I suppose there could be circumstances where the roots haven't had time to knit the soil together and planting of young trees en masse causes problems. I still think it's more likely that the land slumped due to waterlogging and a lack of roots within it.
This is what happened after a certain woodland trust removed trees near one of our favourite beaches: the land fell onto the footpath in a wet winter, blocking it.
Willows can be cut back hard, resulting in less top growth to rock in wind. Other plants, like cornus sanguinea, may be treated similarly. These also root themselves where branches touch the surface, building a very strong sub-surface structure. Being deciduous, there's not much to wobble about on top.
Soil erosion is always worst where there's no ground cover.0 -
what i was going by dave, was the fact a ladder was need to plant therefor making pruning more difficult when plants were established . willows can grow at a good rate and difficult to control ? i agree roots formed hold a bank but this is more vertical/ cliff like by the look of it [like at IOW].just concerned but probably /hopefully wrong0

Hmmm, needing a ladder to plant is cetainly steep!
I dunno where your friend is on IOW alfie, but there are some particular problems there in the south, involving the slipping of surface rocks over a band of impervious gault clay, hence the Undercliff near Ventnor.
This can happen on a small scale too, such as on the housing estate where we rented prior to coming here. Less dramatic, but the house was slipping gradually down the slope, opening a crack on one side. Quite a few of the houses there had to have walls re-built, but we were told, "No one talks about it.":rotfl:

Been bucketing down for 10 hours now
Ordered 100 lithop ( aka living stone) seeds off t'Bay for a fiver. This is a long term project...
Much quicker progress with the 3 Tradescantia zebrina cuttings which I rooted in water and potted up today.
Tomorrow I am going to bring home my succulent plants from the office for repotting, they had grown so much over the last year in the heat.0 -
