Our docs do a lot of consultation over the 'phone, Better Days. It's often the way they review things here. Pharmacist does the same when you've been on meds for a while. Seems efficient to me.:)
The barn is way too big for a dehumidifier, Poppy. Think 60' x 27' and 20' at least at the ridge. There's also permanent ventilation at the edge of all the corrugated roof sheets and in other random places! The biggest problem with humidity happens when we go from cold to warm & wet. Then, things can just be running with condensation. All that will change by April.
No electricians today.:( Their van broke down en-route.No worries, we've been able to get on with things in the general area where they'd have been working.0 -
Hi all
BD - so pleased you managed to sort out your GP surgery issue - why is it that in this so called modern age things like that seem to have then a backward step? Sounds as though your black kitty has the right ideaOur three cats have been *housebound* since we moved here - I haven't fancied letting them out yet. It's been about six weeks now so I guess I should bite the bullet and try them in the great outdoors.....
Dave - as long as you're still making progress, that's the most important thing. I know at our last few projects that when the house was overrun with builders I didn't manage to get anything done myself - even when they were in a completely different part of the building to me - so I kind of relished the dates they didn't show up do that I could get on
Had a lovely, but pretty chilly walk with the dogs on the (huge) vilłage green this afternoon and our two made some new friends, although we're reluctant to let them off lead there atm . DH is very excited about the prospect of watching cricket matches there in Summer.....there's so much more here for us to enjoy than there was down in rural Wilts
I spent a bit of time out in our mini woodland area of the garden yesterday, mainly clearing in readiness for planting - I uncovered some steps winding their way through the undergrowth that were not even visible before. DH thought we had 'plenty' of snowdrops, but there's nowhere near enough for my liking, so will need to get heaps more planted for next year.
I've also established where the veggie area will go - although this will be nothing as grand as our *kitchen garden terrace* at the last house.....still as long as I can grow a few runner beans I'll be happy, lol! It's not that there isn't the space - there's loads, but most of it is landscaped garden (albeit buried, Heligan-style) that I'm reluctant to change just to fit in some veggie beds
We have some amazing architectural arches built into the escarpment that make wonderful garden stores, but I'm planning on turning one into a grotto - my homage to my seaside roots if you like! Not sure where I'll get the required shells/pebbles from though.....will have to fill my pockets every time we visit DS down in Brighton, lol :rotfl:
Having done mainly indoor work today, I'm snuggled up with large glass of wino by the open fire now - sorry BD, but I'm in the *not a fan* camp when it comes to woodburners, although I believe my opinion is somewhat coloured by the fact that my only experience was of the humungous 16kw beast fitted by Captain Hooky (PO of last house) that had (apologies here) seen better days......x

Phoebe your place sounds amazing, I'm intrigued about where you are and some pics would be lovely to see. Your land sounds incredible!0

Phoebe - you sound like you are really settling in well. How wonderful you found those steps. I think it will be great when you get further surprises with what comes up in the garden.
Will you make a shell walled grotto - stick them on in shapes?
I've seen a few, some quite lurid. There was a wall of a corner house covered in Buckies where I was brought up. It had a Penny embedded in the centre of a 'rose' & someone prised it out - not me I may add.
It was repaired by the new owner but never had that same weathered look - but it will.....in time.0 -
Smashed 3 moths this morning, plus another when I came up to bed this evening. Plus one on the landing.
We're trying to keep the infestation in bedroom, so not happy had one on landing... But if it's only one escapee maybe we'll be OK. We need to do some serious vacuuming, but it's a bit impossible at the mo as OH is trying to get his Mum into new Nursing Home (long story about rebuilding stuff) and it's all very time consuming. And scary. Some of these places aren't very nice in what they say about visiting. But we think he and his brother have found a decent one, fingers crossed the Matron's meet with MiL goes OK.0 -

ukmaggie - care homes should be open all hours, within reason. There was a good booklet by = possibly age concern about picking a good care home.
I used to never give prior notice when vistiing my Mum just to see if it was okay & it really was a great home. You just feel so unsure & scared that they are going to be looking after your loved ones as best as they can & given the costs that they charge then there is no reason why they shouldn't be really good places, but it is a hard hard road....All the best with it.0 -
Better_Days wrote: »pink poppy I know woodburners have become 'trendy' in recent years, but I love ours. It is so much more effecient that the open fire that we had previously and watching the flames is hypnotic and frequently much better than anything that is on the TV.
Yes, there's nothing hypnotic about watching a metal radiator get hot!! :rotfl:White & icy but a beautiful run down the Gairloch.
We camped at Gairloch a few years ago, absolutely gorgeous & I would love to go backThe barn is way too big for a dehumidifier, Poppy. Think 60' x 27' and 20' at least at the ridge.
I thought it probably would be
phoebe, your new house & garden do sound amazing, I'd love to see pics too.
That's awful about the moth infestation, MaggieWe seem to have a problem with little flies in the bathroom & that creeps me out because I don't know where they're coming from.

Maggie, could you camp in the other house while chemically treating this one if you need to avoid the chemicals?0
