The stove fan only makes a noise if it isn't positioned correctly and even then it is still quiet. Positioned correctly its completely silent.
Will try to post a pic if peeps are interested?

    TWD?

Goodness been packing stuff up all night. Didn't get invited to FLW. So that was a relief in a way.

Seems very cold & clear out side. Incredibly quiet - nothing moving on the roads - probably coz they're blocked!

Goodness IHS - You sound like you know what you're about.

Supposed to be going over East tomorra, but that may be not poss.

It'll be great looking out for animal foot prints in the snow in the morning -love doing that.

The Walking Dead...or how I feel most nights after the builder and other folks have gone home. :D

Sorry lucielle, I wasn't implying that stove fans are noisy, just but they're quite large and we'd need something small to pull air through a discreet hole...A silent computer fan for about £25 looked like a good way to go.

However, I'm willing to bet that the posh door betwixt kitchen/diner and living room won't be closed anyway, so it may not matter. Personally, I wanted an archway.....

Very still and silent outside here too. I'm expecting -4 or 5c, so putting more heat on to keep loft above zero. :o

    Morning all :D

Are you feelling a bit better now LIR?

Brrrrr it's chilly today -2 but well cold enough for me, I'm not so hardy as some here :o. No snow but a hard frost. Just couldn't warm up yesterday, in the end an electric blanket, woollen socks and snuggling under the duvet with black kitty did the trick. Birds queuing up for the seed I throw out every morning.

Any rooms finished yet Dave? It sounds like you are at the really messy stage of your project.

IHS we ran a radiator into the conservatory we had in the last property. Meant we could use it virtually all year round and as it faced north/east it didn't get too hot in the summer. It was very useful for seed growing, miss it here as I don't have a proper greenhouse.

Only the ones we haven't started! :rotfl::rotfl:

It's a pity that two tidy bedrooms have to lose walls to have them re-built in different positions, but the end result will be more space. Having a few stud partitions means we can at least run pipework and wiring in there more easily than chasing out solid walls.

Only time will tell whether I was right in thinking this project would be better closed down from December to April.
We're further forward, but we're hitting logistical problems from maintaining the archaic heating system and not having the ability to just park more delicate furniture/items in the barn, because of the dampness etc. :(

I can barely get the van down there at this time of year anyway, though ironically, because the ground's frozen, I might be able to go in this morning.
  • morning all,,

very hard frost here this morning... with very grey skies.

It's obviously warmed-up here a bit, as I was able to clear the ice on the chicken drinker with my fingers. Hazy sunshine.

Looked for my snowdrops again, but there's no trace. :(

I planted them 'in the green' down by the stream somewhere. They only moved 100 metres or so from another garden downstream. Odd.

One of our American Red Oaks has still to shed its leaves. I think it probably will now! The other trees in our mini woodland are all budding up nicely, so I expect that to really take off this year. :D

I've decided to plant more trees at the end of the willow grove and in the garden, but they will need protection or a site prepared, and at present I've no time to build the shelters in the field or sort the garden. But if I buy them now, nice & small, and just grow them in spare veg garden for a year...It's all about planning! ;)

Dave, I moved some snowdrops at our previous property, and they were never seen again :( Did it just like they said on Gardener's World too :o

Feeling virtuous, just tidied out one drawer of clutter. Shame there are still many drawers and about 80 boxes to go.........Hopefully I get them all sorted before we move again :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Did find some nice photos of my nephews. SIL likes to dress them up in costumes so the pictures are always entertaining. Must scan them and get them on the digital photo screen thingy.

Sneaked out for an hour to the Dog End, where I dug up one of the Field Maples and re-planted it in the hedge. They're not the nicest of trees, but that one might just cope with a position where anything else I've tried has struggled.

The hole where the Maple was will soon contain another Eucalyptus. making two down there. At a distance, they're nice to set off the other trees in front of them, and they're evergrey.

Then I planted a laurel to replace one in the hedge/buffer area that died. Never had one of those fail before!

Also popped a few perennial stocks into pots, but without much enthusiasm, as I was cold by then. :(

I didn't take the van to the yard. It's our warmest spot and wasn't properly frozen, just soggy. Must get a fig down there. :)
