The snowfields in Wales that I can see from my bedroom window (Yes, I'm still in bed
) seem to be slowly receding. We've got some thin sunlight, not enough to make bedroom over hot or be too dazzlng at the moment. Unlike over the weekend when we had to keep drawing the blinds. Just when the sun shines our bedroom is deffo the hottest room in the house! Solar gain that is.
Woke up 3 am and couldn't sleep, so woke OH at 4 am and he made me pot of tea... He went back to sleep as had to go view another Nursing Home. Am knackered now, but not sleepy IYSWIM.
Can't remember if I mentioned here that we have an infestation of moths in our bedroom. We have pheromone moth traps, but they seem to be mainly for clothes moths, and what we think we have is case making moths. Anyway, we just squidge the b*gg*rs but after a while the theoretically white walls begin to look a bit blotchy!Yesterday OH did a big wash of walls, necessary every so often as it's hard to tell when you've killed a load of the beastly things as you can't tell which are old smudges and which are living ones that need squidging. Yesterday I killed one moth. Today so far have just squashed one moth. A few days ago we had about 6 in the same day. Please God(dess) we are getting on top of them.
The traps we have have caught some on their stickiness, but tis time to replace, so will prob try different ones, just to try something different. Though I suspect they prob all purchase their pheromones from same supplier, just presented differently.
Anyway, if anyone has any useful handy hints on getting rid of moths (my cashmere and wool stuff is sitting in freezer already and being rotated) I'd be very grateful. But I can't use insecticide at all. Just too high risk for me.
Edit: OH just killed another one. 16.060 -
ukM...... they may be in your carpets if they are wool. a friend had some curtains made from a big reem of wool mix material she'd bought and they were infested with moth eggs which promptly rapidly spread through the house... unfortunately the only way to kill the constant cycle i think is chemically
watch out for any ,what looks like, little white corn shucks or dried rice.. thats where theyve hatched. little buuuuggggars eat the wool/cotton as they grow so normally an eaten trail then a shuck... of course your moff's may be different type

Yup, we had that sort in 2013. Until then, I'd always wondered if there was a mystic reason why Dad had bequeathed us 6 puffer containers of ant powder......
It was fate. A bad one for the moths, that is!
We were told we'd need all sorts of expensive stuff to kill them. Not so.0 -

Hi all - Talking of moths, we have them in the caravan & it's terrible. I have had their maggots climbing up the walls - it's disgusting. They seem to be coming out of the cracks at the edges of the laminate flooring as if they are hatching out. We have had them since moving in & I think it must have been previous owner with possibly carpets, but we don't have carpets.
The moths are always hatching & we have had them eat our clothes - its annoying but I have cedar wood rings on some coat hangers but whether that makes any difference I don't know.
Cold here & set off in the snow but the roads were fine.
I have a dental do tomorra so an early start .....0 -
Dave, I'm guessing the barn is too big/too draughty for you to have a dehumidifier running in there to help with the dampness??
I love the term 'evergrey', don't think I've heard that before.
It's so cold here this morning, I'm really envious of those of you with woodburners, stoves etc., much better to look at than boring white radiators'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
The moth problem sounds horrible. You have my sympathies. An ongoing problem like that can really get to you after a while. The little jumping friends that the kitties sometime bring home are bad enough.
pink poppy I know woodburners have become 'trendy' in recent years, but I love ours. It is so much more effecient that the open fire that we had previously and watching the flames is hypnotic and frequently much better than anything that is on the TV.
Not so cold here as yesterday, the chickens water hasn't re-frozen. An icing sugar sprinkling of snow on the ground hasn't melted. Black kitty rushed out a little while ago, but was soon back in shaking his chilly paws
Well, common sense seems to have prevailed at my GP surgery after a shaky start. I rang up last week and asked if my meds review could be done over the phone as I'm not too well atm and didn't fancy sitting in a waiting room of coughs and sneezes. There was much 'its not what we normally do' and 'I'm not sure', and 'I can't make any promises'
The receptionist then asked if I could ring back today as the doctor doesn't like coming in to a list of requests for phone calls. I expressed my surprise that a patient should have to ring back again because a part time GP doesn't like to come in to work on her desk. In the end the receptionist said she would keep a note of my call and give it to the GP today. But she did warn me if she was off sick the GP wouldn't get the note. Dearie me.
GP rang me earlier and agreed to do the meds review over the phone so I was pleased with that.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

White & icy but a beautiful run down the Gairloch. Came back with the car half filled with wood off cuts & some hay so that was a worthwhile dental visit! Got to make the most of every journey.
Our Doc welcomes emails & does phone when he has something to ask, or wants to check to see how things are going - but we are lucky, they aren't all as good in the practice.0
