We have some amazing architectural arches built into the escarpment that make wonderful garden stores, but I'm planning on turning one into a grotto - my homage to my seaside roots if you like! Not sure where I'll get the required shells/pebbles from though.....will have to fill my pockets every time we visit DS down in Brighton, lol ..x
Hmmmm....you aren't, perchance, on red sandstone?
That might be a bit of a give-away! :rotfl:0 -

Yes Dave, I believe we are:D
Thanks all for requests for pics - when I remember how to add a link to photobucket I'll post some up
Maggie - the nursing home where my mum is (and my dad too till has passed away last year) are fine about visiting at any time, although they do have other faults.....such as losing my mum's wedding ring, grrrrrrr
I agree that the fees we pay are so extortionate that to discourage family/loved ones from visiting *whenever* they wish would be grossly out of order! Ours has a policy that as it is now that person's home, you should be able to visit them there as you would have in their own home......
Any that don't allow this should be ruled out straight away, imhoMortgage-free for fourteen years!

phoebe when we moved we kept the kitties in for a few months. They are both rather nervous and we wanted to make sure they were settled before we let them out.
Goodness a 16kw woodburner must have thrown out a lot of heat and guzzled fuel. Don't you find an open fire more dusty?
Your garden sounds wonderful looking forward to seeing some photos.
How are the works progressing Dave?
Decorator started on the living room today. You will be pleased to hear LIR that I decided to have the fireplace and chimney breast painted whiteIt will be easy to change if I don't like it or decide to go for the stone paint that Dave suggested.
The chickens are happy today. We had some left over veg soup which I gave them this morning. Much excited clucking. They deserve something to cheer them up after all the cold weather has frozen up the ground so they can't scratch around so easily. It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Hmmm...they stalled. We met a plumbing problem with an internal soil pipe, which is obsolete, but to change it would have meant two days digging up the floor.... and outside. Not good!
However, we think we've cobbled together a connection. A bit Heath Robinson, but it fits, and anyway this is only a sink waste.
Phoebe, I think little grottoes and caves are pretty common if it's where I think it is.0 -
Simply sparkling day here, sun dancing on the grass and leaves in a very, very soft breeze.
I've got loads of sorting out done today of stuff in the house as though it looks pretty it feels might cold out there!0 -
LIR - If you get good light it boosts energy levels I find. Good for the soul.
LIR - Do you remember you posted a link about a JL fridge freezer - a black one. You don't happen to know which one it was as I can't find the link & would love to oggle it again & covet it?0 -

My fridge freezer? Its a John Lewis own one, they did two when I bought it and mine is the one with a water filter and dispenser, IMO its very good value for money. I'll check it for a model number....hang on........
Jlaffb2011
( all caps ). There will probably be a new model now, I'm guessing 2011 refers to year, I bought mine three years ago.0 -
Cheers LIR - It had two doors off centre. Completely covetable? Long steel handles?0

It has two doors off centre....left is freezer, right is fridge. Long brushed steel ( actually plasticy:o ) handles. Its not the best for size inside, but its very good for us ( three adults with humongous numbers of jars ....pickles, pickles, chutneys, pickles and preserves) and two not huge crispers. Freezer shelves are quite narrow. As a freezing junky ( fruit and veg in season etc, half animals etc) I wouldn't cope with it alone tbh, but we have the chest freezer so I knew I didn't need a huge freezer.....this takes batch cooked meals, ready made soups anything....ready to go in to the oven ....a normal domestic freezer.
Edit. Found an old picture with it in0 -
It's so perfect & lovely & ...well gorgeous.
It would suit us as I too have a chest freezer in the shed for big stuff....
The island unit I got.....a clearance, is shiny black. I just will have to wait, but It is so lovely & just perfect. MMMMMmmmmmmmmmmm
Very raw out today. But the temp isn't below freezing I don't think, but it's damp & feels really cold. The sky is white so I think it'll snow.
Roast pork for tea, just going in. Not even four quid for a shoulder that'll do us about three days gluttony. Parsnips & carrots & lovely tatties Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Food is so impt at this time of year.0
