He's not happy there, as he said, its like they are just leaving people on beds, or sending them home, hoping that whatever is wrong will go away....

Morning all, windy here in the east but nothing like Scotland. Amazing how noisy movement of wind is :o

Old dog went for her three monthly blood test on Thursday. That evening we noticed she was holding her head on one side for some of the time, but otherwise fine.

Next morning Mr BD was giving her obligatory early morning tummy rub and I heard this dreadful yelping. She had tried to get up afterwards and was obviously in a lot of pain. I settled her down, moved her bedding around and she then managed to get up OK. Little bit later heard some more yelping. Not sure what happened but there was one of our kitties running away with a fluffy tail.

So off to the vets we went. Vet very good, not seen her before, but good listening skills. Old dog already on 6 meds/supplements so had to be careful adding something extra into the mix. She is now on 7 meds and supplements - including gabapentin for the pain. It kicked in quickly and she is much more comfortable. Old dog will be 15 in May, not bad for a medium size dog who had a bad start before we re-homed her.

Daft as a brush lurcher not as upset by the wind last night as usual, putting his fleece coat on seemed to help make him feel more secure.

One of the chickens has decided now is the optimum time to moult, the chicken run and coop looks like the chickens have been having pillow fights :D Poor hen looks very scruffy indeed, I'll see if I can get a photo. What was it you said you give to your hens Dave when they are moulting - was it seaweed, or was I imagining it :o

Yes, but I guess any natural supplement would do, just to make sure they have all the nutrients. Ours do pretty well for grain & greens anyway + extras like apples, so I'm not sure it's strictly necessary.

Still horrible here, as I'd guess it is with everyone. Finally got around to watching a programme about the aftermath of last year's flooding on the Levels last night. It made me rather glad to be here.

Obviously, being close, we were tempted by the relatively cheap properties in that area, but we didn't look at any. It was our opinion that unpredictable sea levels and weather could bring chaos that area, and that there might not be the cash or the will to save it. Our opinion hasn't changed! :(

Glad everyone is safe. I thought there would be a lot more trees down than there was. Quite windy again last night. I think I've heard the snow word mentioned. I hope not as DD1 has got her driving test on Tuesday.

    Thanks Dave

Is it dried seaweed supplement you give them?

Absolutely foul here. Wet and very windy. Chickens looking miserable huddled up under their little shelter. Old dog is sleeping comfortably. Kitties showing no inclination to go out at all. Don't blame them. Poor Mr BD will be getting soaked out on delivery.

Right better get up. Chickens are clucking for their morning snack, got some grapes to go with their sweetcorn and spaghetti today.

Sat in a Travel Lodge in Inverness!

Couldn't stand the gusts & the thought of another sleepless night in the car .
Just catching up with emails & bay stuff, before heading back over, but doubt we will have any electrickery over by as that went off & I think we'll be far down the line of fixing that as they'll put the more populous areas on first.

Had a baff last night.....great & about to have a shower just to make sure I am clean & ready to roll.

Hope every one is safe & sound.

Loads of trees down on the way over. The council must have been out early yesterday clearing the roads of them.

    Hi all,

I have been lurking this thread for a few years now enjoying all your posts and trials along the way. Well we just this morning signed up to rent a 5 bedroom farmhouse on a 50 acre plot, 1 acre of that being ours to use with two large barns. We plan to run out dog day care business from it. I have no experience of small holding but plan to have chicken or ducks, grow veggies and just enjoy the good life. Ahhh im scared!

It may be sleeting outside, but this prepared hyacinth is some welcome colour and scent in the house...
