We are about finished with the front of the building, besides the rendering, painting and front door, all of which would be better left till spring.:D
The 'holes' are now all at the back, which is where the weather's coming from!
Oh, tell a lie: we need to replace the garage door and we're hoping to do this with a wide stable door FiL removed from his barn, adding a wee window alongside too, if they let us. Bet they won't!
The more we go on with this build, the grumpier I get though, because so little can be saved. The previous owners spent loads, but we must annihilate all their handiwork, right down to the last nail.
If only they'd done a few things sensibly, or in a bland way that we could live with.....:(0 -
Been awake for last hour, just listening to the roar of wind in trees and all the worrying noises around the house
Edit - seems that front has blown through. Just wheelie bin tipped over, can't see any other damage ... no local trains though, just the intercity services0 -
Hope you are OK choille, and it's only broken sleep you have.
Nothing to report here, but we are due for windier weather tonight, rather than now.0 -
I think we're past the worst here for now too, it's been a wet and blowy night. Thankfully these storms seem to be blowing themselves away quite quickly, and we get decent dry spells between, unlike last year when it seemed constant and relentless, or is that my memory tricking me?!
It's unbelievably mild though, not complaining but it doesn't feel right, when I let the dogs out earlier there was no hint of a chill. It's not going to last though, and I hope I get all my jobs done this morning before the heavens open again.0 -
Yes, looking at the thirty day forecast it seemed like we'd be in grass growth temperatures most of the month potentially. We've had to rotate grazing sooner than I wanted but have put out NO hay yet. ( actually I think we put out quarter of a bale one day...but a laughable amount.
The hope is if we stay in growth it doesn't matter if I rotate quickly because they'll be growth for them to go back to.0 -
Morning all,
Yep VERY windy here.. so not much of a let up so far, but I thought it supposed to be rough with us today/tonight as well??
Don't know what was going on last night between approx. 11.30pm and 5am this morning, but sold quite a few things on ebay lol.. after it being a bit quiet.. only very low priced things, but still a sale is a sale....so when I am mooching around the house, I will find some things to list...
Alfie/choille I haven't got much surplus at the mo, but I can chip in regarding fuel costs, if you were serious about the dog...just let me know and I can paypal some money over...
Choille, hope every is ok with the weather .. someone on another thread said there were approx. 157 lightening strikes in a very short space of time.. and hurricane force winds... all mixed up with snow!!!Work to live= not live to work0 -
choille
I hope you are all dry and warm and not too much damage.
IHS & CTC - was windy enough to wake me here last night - bin day today and many seem to have gone shaking or been blown over. Rattling the old windows a fair bit too.

weather is still bad here, rain is coming down sideways lol.
All I have been doing today is washing, and starching vintage linen.. and sitting in front of the tv watching sky news... its so terrible what is happening out there.. terrifying..Work to live= not live to work0 -
Well I am NOT going to go home for a bit - sideways rain lashing down here and took my over-trousers out of my bag when I went to see rellies after New Year. Doh!
The news - scary but I also think of the situation in a lot of other countries and am thankful for small mercies. I am warm (well just put the fleece on) dry and well fed. And generally safe.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
