Happy New Year to all dreamies
And happy congratulations to all at Dave CentralIt is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

All to report this morning is that we have very low water pressure and people across the road have no water at all
Filled up saucepans and jugs and hoping for the best. Spoke to a nice man at the water board who told me they are busy with burst pipes and was there water streaming down the road? Mr BD checked and no, no water streaming down the road. Oh dear, I supsect a combination of low density housing and no water streaming down the road means that Mr BD may be sent out on a mission to seek, locate and bring home some bottled water. This mission has not yet been disclosed to Mr BD who has other plans for the day
The water board did say that an engineer will be sent out. Whether this year or next was not made clear, but the lack of the water streaming down the road seems to be a significant factor in the decision making criteria. It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Spent my New Year's Eve in various retail establishments looking at toilets and washbasins.... in some detail.
I can't really see much difference between a loo costing £400 and one that's about £100. Am I missing something? I would want radar guidance for some of the prices they charge for a bit of porcelain.
It's frustrating. There's no such magazine as "What Bog?" and you can't exactly try them out in the shop, can you?
One thing I noticed is that there's a trend for square seats. When was it that the human race developed square posteriors? Was I out on that day and missed the switch-over?
Total mystery!
An American site but still

This is the toilet that we had in our old bungalow and we had put in here too. Reasonably priced, does the joband in the sale too
http://www.bathstore.com/products/denver-close-coupled-wc-exc-seat-806.html
I also bought the soft close seat too to save dropping the bloomin thing in the night and waking myself up along with the household.
We needed a back to the wall toilet for the ensuite and there was hardly any choice at a reasonable price. I got this one, but hate it http://www.bathstore.com/products/euro-mono-back-to-wall-pan-1045.html as you point out, human behinds are not square. I suppose it might be more comfortable for someone with a wider posterior.......
If you do decide to buy from Bathstore ring up your local shop. Mine undercut the internet price by a substantial amount (about £400 I think) even though there was a sale on with similar prices to now.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Wow! The Americans really do have it all! :rotfl:
But there was a serious side to my rant. I can't think of many items costing hundreds of £££ where you're supposed to buy without a demo. It wouldn't be too hard to develop a British standard test either....
Regarding those back to the wall jobbies, I imagine they're a pig to fit. We had one at the old place and it was always in the back of my mind that it might leak in a minor way, yet require major surgery to repair.
Funnily enough, or because of their size, perhaps not, it was Bathstore we were in yesterday, along with a couple of others. Could have been a one stop shop for me, but DW liked a basin elsewhere.
Hope your water supply is restored soon. Not a great way to begin 2015, eh?0 -
Weather-wise, diabolical start to the year with me; need the lights on as the rain is lashing down and wind gusting
I had hoped to make a token gesture in the garden for 2015 and plant out a hellebore I picked up in the supermarket sale, but no chance of that it would float away! Will have to make do with reading Gardens Illustrated on the iPad.
Picked up a book on cacti off Amazon for 1p (plus P&P of course) so will be trying to get the six teeny ones from Ikea I have to grow a bit and the large one to flower.0 -
I.H.S. no rain at the mo here, but the wind is, well, very windy.. don't think it will be long before the rain starts though...
Youngest was phoning at 9.30 last night for us to pick him up.. as he was starting to feel drunk... so at least he had the sense to quit while he still had some sense lol, in fact he wasn't too bad...
think it will be another mooch day, just 'playing round' with my craft bits... but think I might need to visit hobbycraft.. lol..Work to live= not live to work0 -
Happy New Year to all daydreamers
Congratulations Mr & Mrs Davesnave, that's lovely news :j
CTC, I love those flowers :T
Hope 2015 is a good year for everyone.'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -

Plumber moaned like mad while fitting the back to the wall toilet - and looking at it I can see absolutely no way to get at the 'innards' so like you I simply hope that it doesn't go wrong.
When I was buying the stuff from Bathstore I asked the lady how they could justify some of the ridiculous prices for some of the toilets. There was an embarrassed silence. It seems they charge what they think they can get away with, including a 'premium' for 'styling' such as a square toilet. Waste of money if you ask me, perfectly happy with my £79 in the sale toilet with soft close seat.
If you have money to burn (or flush) how about one of these, nearly £3,000 for an all in one toilet and basin http://www.bathroomsuppliesonline.com/roca-vitreous-china-basintoilet-p-11586.html - apparently saves about 25% water, but a sustained period of a full household with the runs would be needed to make a dent in getting your money back on it. Plus it is not the most attractive fitting I have seen.
Water pressure is up a bit now, so hopefully back to normal soon.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
