No, there will be as the most of the croft doesn't get the sun, so I always will celebrate that.

I don't really like x mas - all the capitalistic frenzy, but I do like to celebrate the solstice too.

Well better go & visit elderly neighbours. Lovely Orange-bright day, but I do not like Christmas one bit.

Oh good. I rather like choille day, that its something we celebrate with you. Even if I do need reminding of the date each year. I love imagining your beautiful location, so incredibly different from mine, and feeling each year you are closer to your goal, and the joy of you having the light back.

I think its joyful for you, and greedily I love sharing in that a little with you and the other dreamers.

the other thought I had, sounds silly, but get an old wooden fire surround , but out it up on a plinth, and bring it forward from the wall and make it look like a fire surround..

a bit like the one on this site ( 8th picture down)

DH built one like that in the house we just sold in Wiltshire CTC - he also built a matching island (using an old sideboard as a starting point ;)) - we bought some corbels on the bay and he took it from there......good job he's handy :D

Hope everyone is having a peaceful and relaxing day. Like Dave and Mrs Davesnave, it's just the two of us this year as DS and the GF are entertaining her family in their new flat down in Brighton. It's been a gorgeous sunny day and despite the garden being a *project*, sitting in the bay window eating lunch overlooking our little wooded area was magical!

Despite only getting the last of our removals completed last Thursday, we managed to unpack enough stuff to get two rooms set up for Crimbo......although we had a minor setback when our one real tree collapsed on Tuesday night, sending all but eight of the glass baubles smashing to smithereens on the parquet floor :( A Quick dash out to Been & Queued and we managed to find some unbreakable replacements so all was well in the end!

It's been a relatively low key (for us, lol) affair, and we decided against trying out the Aga just in case there were any issues, but we cooked a huge gammon last night (in ginger beer, yummy :D) and a chateaubriand today with amazingly crispy roasties and parsnips etc.....couldn't manage to face the pudding though :o

Took the dogs for a walk through the village after lunch and am now absolutely shattered - think the stresses of the last few weeks are finally catching up on us ;)

Snow forecast here tomorrow so think we'll have a lazy day surfing the online sales as we need to buy new bedding and other boring stuff......

Enjoy the rest of the festive season Daydreamers :xmastree:

  • Visiting friends and family today, was a bit early so stopped to catch this view of the Gareloch and Rhu marina. The Faslane sub base is just around the headland on the right...

The best thing we ever bought was a PVR. We're never around to watch the progs we really wish to see, but that machine just stores them up and spits them out on demand.

Choille Day is definitely 15th January. This year, I should have no problem with the fire, as there's so much stuff we've ripped out of here to burn! :)

Sorry to hear about your tree disaster, phoebe. After lots of experimentation, I think we have arrived at the best design for a medium tree stand at a bargain price: i.e very cheap

    • Take one sturdy container such as a bucket for home brewing, or a really good quality builder's bucket
    • Cut lengths of hazel (or similar) about 40 - 60mm thick and just short of the height of your bucket
    • stick tree in bucket and add hazel sticks until it is tightish
    • check tree is upright and push one thin hazel stick in & bang it home (this is why you need a good bucket 'cos the cheapies split!)
    • move to final position, add sharp sand/fine grit to fill the gaps and top up with water
    Works for us. :D
  • morning all,

we have loads of things to burn to, so will hold onto them for choille Day...

talking about choille day its seems really dark for this time of the morning..

Not venturing out to any sales, the only thing I need is a fresh loaf of bread, as I couldn't be ar$sed to go and get one on Christmas eve...

Parts of wales are supposed to get snow today and looking at the weather map, it just misses us ( the snow line is about 3 - 4 miles up the road), but the weather man the other night did say they were unsure how it would pan out...so time will tell.

Think I might dust down my craft table stuff/sewing machine down today.. and might start making some bits again...but will see if hubby got any plans first...

right lets get the kettle on...I need that first cuppa of the morning lol
