.... absolutely *in love* with living here.......the house, the garden, the village, our fave NT house being five minutes away.....need I go on? And most importantly, no nasty road noise :j We are both so happy with our decision to leave the SW......

    It's blooming windy here though!

Glad your new place is living up to expectations. phoebe.

It's early days, so the windiness may not be so bad when averaged-out. We had two really windy years when we moved here, which bothered us, but recent times have not been so bad. For example, today our weather was only a little damp and reasonably calm. :D

I heard B&Q were having a sale, bromeliads down to £1.50 from £6.

Also "seasonal arrangement" of indoor foliage plants in a wicker planter down to £3 from £15, which perked up after a good soaking. I plan to separate the plants and pot-on. I bought a dozen zinc planters from Amazon so these plants will start me off.

Found out from YouTube I shouldn't have watered the desert cactus today, instead kept them in winter dormancy. Oops. Anyway, I did at least realise now is not the time to pot them on, will wait until March for that.
  • morning all,

glad you are settling in to your new home, and loving it..( pics please)

Choille, that's one thing I would love to see if the northern lights..

Going to my mothers and step dad's for Christmas dinner tomorrow, so seems a bit strange me not peeling veg etc today, I bought the turkey crown from the butchers, and eldest took it to my mums last night, so I supplied the turkey, and they are supplying everything else. was going to take some of our pork up, but in the end decided not to, as my mother will not eat our pork, due to that she has seen our pigs ...

so will have a pork dinner on the weekend..

as normal, it will be a VERY quiet Christmas here, now that our boys are older, its not the same as when they were kids..

    catch you all later..

    and

    MERRY CHRISTMAS

Not too quiet here ATM, due to me using an electric demolition hammer on the old front entrance, which isn't giving up without a fight! :rotfl:

    I will stop tomorrow. :A

so I am going to wrap it up and give it to him this year as well, and see if he notices!!!

and I don't know whats worse, him forgetting he had them for Christmas, or me not cleaning under the low coffee table and chairs lol..

not sounding good around here this morning. I have heard at least 2 Ambulances go passed ( might be the same one going to, and then coming from)

I'm not laying any bets. :D

We've softened: put up some lights, lit some smelly candles etc.and DW has spent 3 days cleaning. Mind you, with what we've been doing, a week would have been possible.

Front step and old hallway are only yielding very gradually. I think I may wear out the power tool I'm using before it's finished. Oh for a 14lb sledgehammer.... but I broke it and decided I'd probably not need another that large. :o

I think you are wise, lol...

the chimnley we took down, was like that, it was like they done the wrong mix, so the cement/lime mortar was stronger/harder than the bricks...

don't go over doing it today, you don't want to be all aches and pains tomorrow,

I got bought some smelly candles yesterday... the £1 yankie candle samplers in Asda.. last of the big spenders lol

That's the B&Q 'seasonal selection' split up and potted on. The ivy turned out to be about 8 small plants in a clump - all in all £3 well spent! Now every south and west facing windowsill is full, along with the conservatory.

I have some tradescantia cuttings I'll transfer to the wicker basket.

Pleased to see verbena bonariensis cuttings have started to root in water, another few weeks and I'll pot them. Insurance in case the main plants get hit by frost despite the bark mulch.

Put a fleece cover over my hydrangea macrophylla, although it's right by the house it does face east so I wanted to protect the buds after I pruned it. Can't stand looking at the brown soggy flowers. Here in Scotland, rather than plants looking 'architectural' in the frost they look a right mess and I've cut all the perennials to the ground.

Oh dear, bit of a c*ck-up on the catering front :( Just defrosting bits and bobs for tomorrow and thought the gravy sachet looked very odd. On the back 'Not suitable for freezing' Doh, it'll have to be Bisto granules...
