Pretty mild here this morning, and although there's a colder interlude coming around Christmas Day, it doesn't last. At this rate, the plants will be getting very confused. Looking across the valley, the fields are much greener than normal for the time of year.

The worst kind of winter for us would be one which is coldest at the end; say around March. That's because we've planned to use up all the oil in the tank and we can't do a re-fill, as we would normally. That tank goes with the Aga. Decision made!

Anyway, what will be, will be. :)

I went out for last minute vittals yesterday, so with any luck, we won't need to go anywhere now until Saturday. Our kids are both staying at their homes this year, so there's just the two of us, no tree and no decorations, except the cards. All very different from usual, but we don't mind. It's quiet! :D

It wasn't easy finding a good-sized free range chicken yesterday. I could have barn-reared things the size of an ostrich (OK slight exaggeration! :o) but although they'd be tender, with meat falling off the bone, that's because of being grown fast, possibly faster than their bone structure could cope with. :(:(

Eventually I tracked one down, and it wasn't that much more expensive than the big, floppy ones. :D
  • morning all,

I am not surprised about sheds and poly tunnels flying around..( even though Alfies was a while back)

it has been a stinking night and morning..

with high wind and loads of fine rain..

been to collect the turkey crown/breast.. and some bits in Tesco and lIDL, so will go to farm foods and Asda later..

making the most of the best prices, and money off coupons etc..

3 of our girlie piglets are going on sunday... will be sad to see them go, but the boys are the charecters in this bunch, one just pushing up against my legs, and flops over for belly rubs.. pity we cant keep him, but hayho I should imagine there will be one or two in every litter I would like to keep..

right cuppa time before I go out shopping again

Really mild here. Car thermometre said it was 8 degrees outside at half five. Went to get the goose. The road to the goose is always flooded. Bone dry this year.
floor us the awkwRd weather will be a wet late spring. We'd like to get a good hay crp, which means getting horses on to the 'strip' for grazing'

Maggie, sorry to hear Hubby is ill. Not nice having a chest infection.

CTC - thanks for the link. They did have a similar sale here, but we didn't go. Your auctioneer sounds similar to the one at our Mart. Good that the piggies have got new homes even though you like them a lot.

Alfie have emailed you. Goodness, sheep in lamb. Lovely to have lambs. What flavour are the sheep?

dave - you sound really well planned & worked out. I am not at all organised time scale, but I won't stay in the caravan another year. It's a year to get the house finished next year - hopefully.

So wet here again & really cold too - been sleeting this morning. I ordered a bath & stuff on-line as it was really good offer on a dream bath, but we don't have room at the mo & it will be right in the way, but I was scared the offer would end. Plus I had the money to cover it that would have disappeared on other things.....so I went & did the deed.

Hope everyone has a peaceful time.

Must brace myself & take hay up to the sheeps....

We just had a flurry of very fine snow, despite it being such a mild, unseasonal day!

We completed last Tuesday (but only had our broadband connected today and are still unpacking as our removers took three days to offload our stuff :o) and are absolutely *in love* with living here.......the house, the garden, the village, our fave NT house being five minutes away.....need I go on? And most importantly, no nasty road noise :j We are both so happy with our decision to leave the SW......

    It's blooming windy here though!

Anyhoo, hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas! Off now to try to catch up with the Christmas preparations ;)

After a damp morning it did dry up here but still rather cold. Before I went to India I bought a nice pot and planted specie daffs to give to our neighbours for Christmas. Popped 4 polyanthus in the top today and shoved a glittery bauble on a stick in the middle - very pleased with my efforts. Hope they are!

Also swept up some leaves and had a walk round the back garden. Loads of bulbs popping through, 3 Hellebores in flower and all the others showing signs of new life. Still have hardy fuschias, roses and geraniums in flower.

Busy time tomorrow preparing for Christmas. Four generations here for dinner on 25th - oldest 95 and youngest 7! 8 people in total which isn't too onerous.

It's a certain person's birthday too but I am keeping quiet about that one! One candle in the Christmas pudding will suffice!

Congrats on your sucessful move. Great to hear you have made the right decision. One good thing about moving this time of year is that it gives you time to plan the garden before having to roll up your sleeves (or to be 'director of operations' whilst someone else does the work ;) )

Windy here too. Mr BD put up a tarp over the chicken coop to give it a bit more shelter, but we have had the windiest week for ages and I amazed the tarp hasn't ended up in the next village.

Hope you have a fab Christmas in your new house.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Excellent news on the house move Phoebe. Glad it's all worked out fine.

Cold here with a Northern Light sky - lovely. Loads of deer on the roads this evening.
