DAVE, my normal tree would be glitz and chavness but boss gave me a box of posh decorations and i thought id try up market ;) but i am gonna get a bit of bling to hide inbetween them tho ....:rotfl: ITS CHRRRRIIIISTMASSSSSSSS. :D
  • morning all,

    its cold and wet here,

I really do need to go out and crimbo shop, but I really cant be !!!!!d with the crowds... going back 10 - 15 years I would be loving it all, think I should go one night in the week, and just hit the supermarkets..

think I might rummage through the boys bedrooms to look for old toys etc to shove on the bay ( dread to think what else I will find)

The bay does seem to be picking up the last day or 2, so last minute buying, a bit like me lol..

We have decided we are def going to the dressed poultry sale next Saturday
    http://www.probertauctioneers.co.uk/announcements/christmas-sales

mainly to see what its all about, and to see if we can pick up any ideas from it. I see they have one on the Tuesday 23rd too, but we will prob be busy in work for that one..

has anyone been to something like that before??? if so what are they like, cheap ? expensive?

Full house here as its Rhiwi's Official Family Crimbo Meal (12 at the table) and the stuffed duck and turkey in the oven smell lovely.

Pressies are stacked around the tree waiting to be exchanged, White Christmas is on telly. Later some of the horde will disperse, but we still have DD1s family with us for a while as they make their extended house habitable

Ebay has been a bit manic over last 3 weeks but today is fairly quiet and all sales have been wrapped.

May have a glass of wine soon :)

Glad the kids were found Dave & didn't go feral. I think I'll pass on the Asda cushion.

Just had a heavy hailstorm but the snow seems away because of heavy raining the night. Still very cold & gusty winds. Something fell of a shelf & destroyed a decanter that was worth about £100. It is annoying as there's so much other tat that it could ave hit, but it took out the most precious thing beneath it. I shouldn't have had it left out really.

CTC - haven't heard of a dressed poultry sale, but the mind fairly boggles.Mind you I've seen what some folk dress wee dogs in, so nothing would surprise me.
Ebay isn't doing much for me at the moment. I seem to have wasted weekends listing masses of stuff, but not much really selling for me this week.
Spider plants were a thing to have. I killed mine or rather a heavy frost did & they sort of melted in the bathroom - all black & flaccid they went!
Bit of a quandry at the mo as we have an offer of work on the house but we can't afford it at the mo. It's tempting but we are skint. How do ordinary folks afford workemen? It take so long to scrape together what they charge for a daily rate. It's so ......far off. But we'll just have to jog on.

I've been destroying the wall in my old office as fast as I can today, as I resent paying someone else to do unskilled work like that. Trouble is, I often can't keep pace with the labouring and do other stuff too.:(

It's fortunate that the going rate here seems to be around £15 an hour for the more basic skills. Our build costs will suddenly jump when we add the heating and a kitchen into the mix!

We're lucky, having stored money for the build from the day we purchased, but as they say in the supermarkets, "When it's gone, it's gone!" so we have to arrive at an acceptable point by the time it does. If we don't, we have to sell, 'cos I won't be happy with a never-ending project. Too old for that!:p

Sorry to hear about your decanter.:( I hope it was at least empty at the time......;)

Right, back to the sledgehammer. Builder has a fancy drill thing, but it makes more dust than my hammer and it's slower!:rotfl:

    That's interesting Dave.

Here it's expensive for labour. It's cheaper in Edinburgh apparently.

I too am trying to do the unskilled stuff, but it is keeping up & making endless cups of tea. Making bacon sarnies & doing the other stuff.

The decanter I'd had for a while & had it empty coz it was for sale on ebay.................the best thing I had up.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Labour costs are huge, like everything else. There is a reason we are doing things in stages!

I did post earlier but cannot see it. We are ok, adjusting to life as a two dog household. We went to two Christmas fairs this weekend with the dogs ( could not have done that before) yesterday's dogs were great, today they swore a bit at a couple of other dogs. Alfie can confirm my dogs are other dog friendly, so I think its just a combination of being on leads and being a bit 'up themselves'. Separating from each other seemed to do the trick pretty well.

They have a bed in our bedroom now and I think are just getting a wee bit above them selves from a change in routine and expectations. Dog dog is having tantrums when ever she isn't given free run of the house now...not always possible, e.g. When she has muddy feet. So they are going to have to adjust a bit.

    NOT A HAPPY BUNNY!!!

I bought a tefal food mixer wit all the attachments from tescos a while ago, as my old kenwood died a death ( it was my mothers when I was small)

went to use it today to mix a biscuit mix, and there was a hell of a racket..

so took it back, and because I didn't have the recipt they wouldn't do nothing...all I wanted is for them to exchange it... so it looks as though I am pooped, will contact tefal direct tomorrow and see what they say...

Aflie I know its a total long shot, but have you still got that old kenwood mixer you bought at the farm auction when you came down to our place? if so, how much do you want for it??

Choille.... will take some pictures if we def go on Saturday... I think it might be like the agri shows after the meat is judged they auction it off

Only seen 'live' agri shows CTC.

I think that from Tesco the guarantee is your receipt. You have to kinda remember to keep it somewhere safe & use a highlighter on the item. But if it'snot fit for purpose it could be a trading standard type of complaint. I use that as a threat if I get hassle. I don't do it often, but if something packs up too quick then it isn't fit for purpose even though the guarantee has run out you can sometimes still get a replacement.

Good to hear from you LIR - sorry about old dog. Hope the other ones settle into the new routines.

Massive lightening here ....again, still having this thunder/hail/snow storms going on.

Sawn a load of wood up earlier, but it's pretty sodden still. The fields are totally sodden too. I do feel sorry for the sheep even though they're toughies.
