  • Hey Ashes - if you see a good deal (like you did:cool:) you'd have to be crazy not to take it up. It is nice to use the system instead of being used by the system!!! :rotfl:

Congrad's on your second time debt free too!

Doesn't it feel good to own all of your wage and to know that your networth is rising and not stagnating. :j:j

I will feel happier once my budgeting pots are back on track - I had these all through paying off my debts (and it was really only once I had these that I made progress) BUT was quite ill last year and had to drop hours at work so they fell by the wayside :o It did mean I didn't get back into debt :) but will make this year a bit tough as not really got much in them to pay the annual stuff :o (quite a lot due in May / June)

No. 97. another £10 in the EF today. hoping to try and pay something even if its a £1 or so every day. Like alot of you I am on a DMP so this is a great fallback for those little (or usually big in my case) emergencies.

I agree totally, eveie189, on how hard it is to cope with emergencies when on a DMP as I'm on one myself. This EF challenge has been unbelievably useful to me but at first I wondered whether to join in as I genuinely felt I had no surplus money whatsoever to put into it. But the memory of total panic when emergencies have cropped up in the past when I hadn't a penny to my name and no credit anywhere has just made me do everything in my power to make savings somewhere. It's been really hard but I know now that anything is possible. It's a good feeling:j

Good Luck on your DMP journey:beer:
  • That's a good amount of planned spending money left over, CountingPennies. Well done on not splashing out and using it all:T. Holidays can do funny things to people's normally careful spending habits:eek: I hope you had a great time.

Thanks. We had a lovely time, without spending a fortune! Was well organised! Also have £13.76 left over from grocery budget so have added this to my fund too!

Back up to near £100! :T Currently standing at £95.13/£1000

  • Thanx SVC - This is the second time I have gotten debt free but this time I want to stay debt free. :)
I am hoping to get a mortgage later on this year but I feel that that is okay debt. ;)
How are you doing with your Emergency Fund?

Well...after major setbacks last month when it was decimated I'm hopeful that I can add another £220 to it this month as I have some overtime and money owed from overpayment of leccy.
So I will be back up to £440.:)
I'm doing a few more hours ot this month so should be able to add to it next month. To be honest I'm doing the ot grudgingly as I already work really long hours and sometimes it gets a bit much but at times needs must.
    Just keep smiling:)

  • Well ive decided that desperate times need desperate measures ...... im going to pay the money in the '50th birthday treat' pot (£60), my £2 cons (£20) which id been saving for some garden furniture and add to the £20 left from last month int the EF

Not too happy about it but cant see how else im going to get to the £250 needed for the house works - needs must

So, thats brought me up to £480.85 (with £180 of that earmarked for the house works)

Ive signed up to do the election count so that will be a few pennies - hoping that can be used for the garden :)

£680 this month. Hoping to finish by May. Things finally seem to be allowing for that possibility on the financial front.

another £5 in the EF for me today. so thats £35/£1000. The goal seems a long way off but I am sure once I am settled in this new house and I have finished the decorating I will be able to speed up the savings.

Grand sum of 81p skimmed off the main account and added to the EF.
Had my first week's wages Tuesday, so after deductions of £50 to cover the DBS check, was left with £56. Mind you, that was for 19 hours work.

The head office are very efficient and I even got my P60, so I can go online next Tues. and fill-out my self-assessment Tax return. This should trigger the HMRC in to re-calculating their estimate and sending me a refund.

Also need to fill-out WTC forms and am currently on the phone waiting to speak to HMRC about claiming back for washing my work-supplied uniform at home as between 1996 and 2010, I had to do this.
