When I started this thread nearly 2 months ago, I never expected it to grow to 68 members in such a short time.
Considering I started this thread in response to listening to a 'Dave Ramsey' video cast after hearing about the man via another MSE member, I think it very opportune to openly thank Dave for his '$1,000 emergency fund challenge'.

If I hadn't listened to him, this thread would never have been born.

I'm still stuck on £20 as have an unexpected large expenditure in January and there is no means of saving anything in my emergency fund for the next couple of weeks at least.

Hope you are all doing better at this than I am. Happy New Year!

My main focus is paying off my debt but I'd feel better having an emergency fund so will add a few pence here and there when I can. Right, I'm off to search the house for spare change to start... :)

Welcome aboard R2B, hope you found lots of change for your EF! :D

Ahhh, Hoipolloi, I hate not having anything spare to put in my EF. I put hardly anything in during December as I needed every penny to put towards Christmas, so I know how frustrating it is. But remember we are in this for the long haul, and it's better not to add to our debts when we have unexpected outgoings. Happy New Year to you!

Dreamer Helen, in the end I stayed at home, we had close family round and OH's friend, but it was quiet and much more relaxed. No loud music just watched some rubbish tv and listened to music and a sensible volume! I went bed at 1am and family left just over an hour later I think. So, I'm a happy Eyebright this morning :D
I'm reflecting this morning on what I've achieved over the last 12 months and where I want to go from here. I think it's a great thing to do, and not boring at all! Happy New Year to you hun xxx
  • Happy New Year everyone :)

Payday yesterday and I did a lot of unexpected overtime in December so have transferred £200 into my emergency fund. Total is now £571.16 which is a lot higher than I thought it would be. This is supposed to be my buffer to see me through maternity leave once my pay drops to only £500 p/m but I'm hoping as I have been frugal and saved up some other expenses into pots that I don't have to dip into it. Desperate to get it up to the magic £1000 mark by May as that's when my money drops but we'll see!!
