Genuine question her to those who are frightened of spiders - what exactly is it that you are afraid of??? Now I could understand it if we had the Funnel Web spider, Brazilian Wandering spider, Black Widow etc, but ours are totally harmless!

I know they are harmless but the thought of one crawling on me...They move so quickly and they scuttle and I am absolutely terrified of them - even money spiders! _pale_

I hate the scuttling run that they do; I always spot the damn things out the corner of my eye first and when I turn to look properly they scuttle under something so I end up frantically looking around the room all night with my feet firmly on the sofa! :rotfl:
  • Glad it's not just me.:o There's some MASSIVE b*st*rds around this year! :(

Ricky Gervais is apparently scared of spiders. In one of his old XFM radio shows with Steve Merchant, they were arguing about it. Steve asked Ricky whether "his husband was also scared of spiders?", which was was quite funny, then Gervais in a slightly panicky voice said "I know who built those webs, Steve. And they live there."

When I moved into my little house, there was a big 'un in my bath the first night. I went to shout "MUUUUUUUUM!" (she was the brave one in our house) and then realised that I lived on my own now and would have to deal with it myself! That was a defining moment...

Inevitably, I wimped out and got Jasper (dog) to deal with it... ;)
  • I had a huge spider scuttle across my living room floor the other day. My cats love playing with spiders but even this one was too quick for them! It was a monster sized one; I saw it and panicked!

My shed is full of them. I wanted to cut the grass today but I refused to go in the shed to get the mower as one dropped from the top when I opened the door.

My fear goes back to my childhood when my horrible older brother thought it would be funny to catch a spider and throw it at me...the spider landed in my hair and I could feel it crawling in my hair and then it dropped down my top. I remember that feeling....

A couple of months ago I had a spider in my bedroom and one in the kitchen. They didn't bother me and I left them be. But then I had a problem with moths coming in through the bedroom window when I was reading at night and the cedarwood and citronella incense I burned to get rid of them seem to have scared the spiders away too.

It's slugs and snails I hate, for a similar reason to deep in debt. I remember as a kid on holiday running along in bare feet and standing on a snail, eeeuurgh.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Slugs and snails don't bother me. I did tread, bare foot, on a big brown slug some years back....was shock more than anything and it left a stain on my foot for ages. One of my cats used to bring worms in...hated finding those slithering on the kitchen floor!

My house is most defiantly not dirty but we get loads of spindly spiders in the house, esp in the hallway and I've seen them have babies a few times, real Charlottes Web moment lol. They really don't bother me, they don't move a lot and every now and again I'll go on web war to keep on top of what they spin. Have had a couloir of big black spiders in the house this year, one sadly found in the compost caddy I was soaking in bleach - I'm not scared of spiders but I did have to get OH to empty if out, it was HUGE.

what I have noticed is loads of spiders in the garden. We have pebbles not grass and when I walk on it near the shed i can see loads of spiders each about the size of a 20p scuttling off like something for The Chamber of Secrets.

My house isn't rural as such, but we do have a lot of fir trees and established shrubs about.

Well, after posting that I hadn't seen any for weeks I've just sat down at the computer and there's a fairly big brown spider keeping me company, just sitting on the wall next to me.

It looks like an all growed up version of the one that used to live in the kitchen, I think it's got it's bigger harder brother to come and tell me to stop burning that nasty insence...
