Spiders in a house

Options
With all the talk in newspapers and on the TV news about both the size of spiders this year and the fact that they are {as normal} entering our homes,it made me wonder if you visited a persons home and saw them {but no cobwebs around} would you think that the owners did not keep a "clean house" or just except that, as advised by some they remove other unwanted insects?
Personally I would have no problem seeing them but what do others think?

I don't think spiders are an indication of cleanliness. My mum's house is always spotless and she gets loads.

My house is full of cobwebs because it's old. Some I genuinely can't reach because my landing ceiling is so high and my hoover is rubbish! ;)

I do get worried that people must think I live in a dump because of the cobwebs (and the carpet in the bathroom which is being changed soon because I got loads of hair dye on it!) but they will appear, like it or not. I will dust my living room and get rid of all of the cobwebs and they'll be back the next day :rotfl:

There's a few spiders who have made their home in my house. I don't really give a hoot. The house isn't unclean.

There was a huge spider on the wall yesterday. The dogs had a lot of fun tracking it as it scuttled across.

I think it is pretty silly to judge somebody because their are insects or arachnids in their home. Sure, if the person has a gazillion flies floating about there's probably something that's festering away somewhere but other than that, the things just find their way in.
  • I would think "oh look, a spider" and that would be it.

  • We get loads in our 1940's house. One was on my clothes this morning, it had ambushed me in the polytunnel. I popped it on one of my chilli plants in the front room, good pest control I think ;)

We live in an old house and it is full of daddy longlegs, I go around clearing the cobwebs from every room once a week but guaranteed by the next morning they are back. They seem to love the corners and around the beams especially in the part of the house with really high ceilings.

So far we have only found these reported monster house spiders in the bathroom and living room but we haven't used the heating yet so it will probably get worse. I really don't mind the daddy longlegs at all they keep other insect pests away but I am slightly terrified of proper spiders so they do get evicted quite quickly.

My shed on the other hand is always full of Shelob and Aragog offspring, I avoid going in there as much as I can.

I wouldn't judge anyone's house for having spiders, they can't really be avoided and have no link to the cleanliness of the house (except maybe you can see them better in a clean house than a dirty or cluttered one).

I wouldn't care if someone had a few spiders in their house. I certainly wouldn't use it as a benchmark to how clean their house was. Generally speaking I can judge that for myself within 30 seconds of walking in the door based on the state of the rest of the house. The presence or lack of spiders would be irrelevant.

I seem to be some sort of Queen to Spiders - they are DRAWN to me!!

Always loads in my bedroom, but nowhere else in the house - and no webs either!??

There's always one or two around my bed and I make sure I always shake my clothes before I dress now and there's generally a "thud" most mornings as one hits the carpet and scuttles away!!

There is also a very persistent spider that has set up home on my car's wing mirror - I never see the spider but his / her web is there every morning and I wipe it away, only to find it back again the next day.

    The kids think it's hilarious...:o

I really like spiders, our house is always full of them in autumn as we are surrounded by fields and forest ... the great thing about spiders is that no insects that can settle in the house, or even pass through it, in as they get eaten. :D I avoid disturbing their webs in the autumn and clean them when the colder weather hits in winter and I can't see the spiders any more.
