Good to hear from you, mothernerd. Thank you for letting us know how it went. Oooh, Nov 6th would be brill! My dad had 15months to wait!

Today being Wednesday, it's MARTIN'S EMAIL DAY. :j

What 1 thing will you do today/ did you do today to save money? Or that cost you nothing?

I shall walk to and from the food shop. It's something I do every week, but it's good to remind myself of the £1.45 bus fare it saves me!

  • Glad to hear you have a date mother nerd, that must be a big relief! I was a bad turtle and didn't check in yesterday, but in order to leave work on time to get to uni I have to start at 8am and didn't walk back through the door until 9pm!! However, it was a NSD and I got my lunchtime walk in, which is really good. Hoping for the same today.

We've run out of bread this morning but I found a bread mix in the cupboard so will be making a new loaf rather than loosing an SFD. Might try it in the oven rathe than the bread maker as I haven't found the right setting or sth and they always come out rather dense.

Calling - a slow cooker is a good investment in the long term so don't feel guilty, you can do really cheap and tasty meals in them.

    Mothernerd - great news.

I have totally lost track of my SFD's and did in the end succumb to the lure of those lovely boots I was coveting. I am hoping they arrive today, I would have bought them locally but they didn't have my size, they said they would order and it would take a week, I rang after a week and they hadn't ordered and said a couple more days, it is over 2 weeks now and they still haven't called me. I will email the company when mine arrive and tell them, a one off local business shouldn't be losing trade like that.

Last night I did DD's secondary school application on line and then lay awake half the night worrying about it, wondering whether I had done it right and about the journey to and from her new school, they don't finish till 3.3.5pm and then she has to come home by bus and they expect years 7's to do 5 hours homework a week:eek:.

Just debating whether to get rid of the t.v licence again. We've only had one for the past 3 years and to be honest we rarely watch it. The kids on the other hand do. However I've noticed lately a lot of what they are watching can be watched on i player etc. So only need to find out how to hook up the computer to the TV for a bigger screen. Any ideas ???????????
Currently looking at other bills we can save on and so far saved £25 on gas and electric.Saved £60 on OH car insurance. need to start looking at the rest especially on the food budget. I love yellow stickers:T but I've a freezer full of it. :rotfl:
Currently the whole family on a clothes diet untill the new year, only things allowed are school tights.
budgets = food gone:eek:/ petrol almost gone:eek:/nsd:mad:/ Treats: where the money gone? far far away:mad:/exercise not happening/declutter: only my purse:(

sazzlebgood you need a hdmi cable (they are only £2 - £3) but our visiting techie says he thinks they only work on hd tellies. When I had one I got DS1 to plug it into the correct slot on the back of the tv, so it only needed attaching to the computer when we wanted that function.

dolly - 5hrs hwk may sound a lot, but is only 1 hour per day. That'll be 2 bits at 30 mins, or 3 bits at 20 mins. It is doable, and hopefully her current school are dishing out regular hwk already.... Fingers crossed the whole process goes smoothly for you both!

sazzle - a freezer full of ys food sounds yummy!

Well done thrifty, getting that bread mix out! I am on the naughty step as I took the bus BOTH WAYS to do the food shop. Admittedly, I usually catch it back as the shopping weighs about 35lbs+, and I carry it in a rucksack and 2 cloth shoulder bags. But after a workshop at dd's school that only let me out at 12.30, I wanted to get it done before eating. Ok, enough attempts at justifying it, I'll go park my posterior on that step.

Oh dear, popped to Superdrug for some nice nail varnish to hide my gardening nails and ended up spending 38 pounds!!!!!! John Frieda shampoo, Conditioner, frizz ease stuff all about 2.70 each, so stockpiled for me curly stuff, straight stuff for kids for xmas stockings, plus few items of make up jumped into my trolley. Xmas shopping off the starting line anyway, going home to pig out on Jam doughnut next.

Next few days will get organised and make xmas lists, put dresses on ebay and sort my kitchen cupboards out. Plus use all my new make up to look extra glam for night out tomorrow:)

Early check in - laptop keeps cutting out for no reason (did ask DS3 to order me a new battery and cable - he had said get a new cable) but has he done it - no.

NSD. Should have made £35 in sold items (another £15 to come) by end of day. just wish it hadn't been the big thing at the back of the shed that sold first - spent over an hour emptying it (can only move 2 big or 3 small tiles). DS3 spent all morning telling me he couldn't do anything until his friend woke up, then wrestled it out of the shed and as far as the house while his friend was getting dressed. They've got it onto the drive so it's ready when the buyer comes. He thought the buyer should have got it out, so had to explain it wasn't a good idea to let a stranger trail all through the house, garden and shed.

DS3 has put some of his clothes away (marginal improvement to his room) but they didn't do any of the 'suggested' tasks while I was out yesterday. However the photos his friend took for me are what has sold this item - had been up for sale for a fortnight with no interest. So need to concentrate on the write ups to go with the other things he has taken photos for (added photos to the ones I already had advertised).

Painted the edges of the attic stairs and finished off the white and grey undercoat. Swept and cleaned a good part of the shed to clear a pathway, filled a bin bag - recycled, use ups and sales getting towards 20 more on the clutter clearing total (will do before bed, but resting atm). Taken all the bedding off the boys beds for washing (it's dull and damp but not actually raining) and used up the bombay potatoes (from the takeaway they had on Monday) with a green pepper and some mushrooms for my lunch. Chopped veg mix for roast veg and all the tiny hg onions are topped and tailed, halved, peeled and away in the fridge.

Can please myself for the next 5 days so plan is to use up what is in the freezer ready for moving/ selling/ restocking for op recuperation and/or ChristmaS.

Need to try boiler man again. Have a good end of week and weekend turtles - think I may have a lazy evening and enjoy the quiet.

  • Hello guys

Finally an end to the nonsense spending. I forgot to plonk my bum on the naughty step yesterday for extra spends on... a suitcase.. a 'Mean Mouse' backpack for the little lady at a total cost of £33. In my defence the suitcase is huge and having spent the last few years lugging half a dozen bags plus a case back home, crippling the pram and myself in the process, I am glad to have one case that does it all!

So, what have I done to save me money today? I just whizzed up a homemade pasta sauce with mixed peppers, onion, passata and some chopped tomatoes, basil, oregano, garlic and chilli. There are some homemade pots in the freezer, but I decided it costs nothing to whizz up, but time, and the frozen one will stop me leaning for the phone with a takeaway menu in hand when I come home from Nottingham.. :D

Hugs all. My erroneous spends have gone through the roof this month. Whoever is running November, I will be battening down the hatches, and not a penny shall squeak through! :) xx
