    Yo turtles

Been thinking quite a bit about the Bike challenge and have realised that my bike is well and truly chained up for now and I feel I cant dream too far into the future because each change depends on the step taken before it :( I had a woe is me moment yesterday thinking how tough it is being single with the one income and how nice it would be if I was in a relationship where my partner would hold the financial fort for a while, so I could retrain at uni :o However, I guess the upside of singledom is that I only have myself and my own finances to think about without having to worry about anyone elses..

Just think Phoenix this makes us tougher turtles with loads of gumption:) Know exactly how you feel, pressure is on you all the time.

Applemuncher sincere condolences and hugs. Your partner sounds ace keep him ;)

Luckystar avoid shops and online shopping. Only way to reduce your debt is to stop spending. Have you got a diary and SOA on here, had some good advice when I first started out. Sell anything not fixed down to clear your overdraft as that must be costing you heaps. Good luck and hugs, team turtles here for back up, support and laughs when your feeling down.

Well I used my hair dye up waste of time my hair is still Snow White's color. Going to have to loose a SFD today for milk, perhaps I should get larger 6 pint ones.

Grandson again today after work, try to help my daughter out as much as I possible to avoid huge nursery costs. Plus its great fun yesterdays question from the 3 yr old - Why are there wheels on the car? My neighbour was just stood there laughing waiting for me to answer that one.

Have a good day folks and make time for some fun in your lives.

can you imagine a world where 90% of the women spent every weekend playing/ watching netball and hockey - the country would grind to a halt.

Am still giggling at this Mothernerd, much as I enjoyed playing netball I've never felt the urge to go to a pub and watch it:D!

So much to catch up on since I last posted! Applemuncher, so sorry to hear about your uncle, even when expected it's still horrible when it happens. And as others have said, your DH sounds like a treasure.

Luckystarr, the things that worked best for me are the envelope system with all spends withdrawn as cash after payday, and YNAB - I could bore for Wales on the second one, but will spare you except to say best thirty-odd quid I've spent for a long time!

Lilt, good news about painkillers:j , and CEW, not so good news that you're poorly :( - hope you feel better soon. Samiszel, amazing typing after all that free wine! And Stewby, love the Xmas pot, might pinch that idea next year. Hugs for everyone who's under the weather / down in the dumps / not able to pedal for whatever other reason - AM's trailer free now Lilt's back on form!

Dolly, excellent news about your daughter's 11+, she must be one smart cookie, well done her! DS2 didn't do enough to secure a place, but did remarkably well considering the work (or lack of !) he put in until about a week before he sat it. Still, we're pleased he tried, and he's quite excited about his catchment school as his brother started this September, and really loves it.

No SFD today, had to get a card for someone so got it at the shop in work. No plans to spend tomorrow, car in for service but DH paying for it (did I say he's not all bad?:)), just have to get back from garage about 5 miles away once I drop it off, so gonna stick my bike in the back and pray it's not raining / foggy / freezing or all three in the morning.

Will think about the things I do to save money - only using cash now would be one, and using survey sites to get vouchers, which I then use on the famous online purveyor of pretty much everything when I need gifts is another. Though just decided to give up on survey sites as have just cashed in latest points and realised lots of hours for very little reward, has taken me around 6 months and many, many hours to get to the £50 payout on YG. Will put down others as I think of them.

We're closer to this weekend than the last now, keep pedalling turtles!

Horrible day, feeling like a failure, doubting myself, am I ever going to sell the house, how will we survive if it takes ages? Was so cold I put the heating on for a bit (thought I might disappear under the bedclothes and never come out. Then realised I was sniffly.

Felt so bad thought I might as well get on with the painting as I wasn't going to feel any worse than I did. Made me sweat. had a bath since but still not got all the paint off my hands (keep rubbing in E45). In bed, keeping warm, watching new to me episodes of old dramas.

NSD. DS3 has been paid by one of the sites that hosts his games so has paid over a couple of weeks rent. Will do better tomorrow. Will bounce back. I think I need to sell everything that isn't nailed down (just need to work out how to take photos on this phone and see if DS3 has the right sort of card to get them from the phone to the computer). Could do with hime spending a couple of days moving boxes and taking stuff out of the shed for me so I can clean and organise it. But he's made £93 today so don't think he wants interrupting.
My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.

mothernerd - so sorry you are feeling so rotten. Do take care and rest and eat.

sazzle - ooh, shiny new washing machine _party_ !

Well done to all you dreamers out there. Some things may be considered 'pipe dreams' or part of a bucket list. But no-one can take away our dreams, so enjoy them!

I shall be - finally - sitting for a ponder myself tomorrow, as I have a 5 and a half hour train journey to fill. (Once I get to the station, which could take another 90 mins).

I'll probably have no internet until Sat evening or Sun morning, so keep pedalling along!

    Yo gang

Apple muncher So sorry to hear of your loss :( thinking of you and your family at this very sad time.. xx

Very quick check in as Im pooped and ready for bed! I will catch up with the thread properly tomorrow I think..

Had a very busy afternoon following post night shift sleep. Got the exhaust fixed at last so no more clunking noises heard underneath thank goodness.. Returned the bobbly bear jumper to N£xt so £35 refund is expected in due course.. Spend day on yet more food at Te$c and on House loo rolls from Co$tco.. £90 spent on the boiler service. It also needs a new part so thatll be a further £300 spent on Friday! A measly £24.91 paid toward the debt rounding it to a nicer £1950 figure..

So thats me spent and on the bones of my arms til pay day :o

  • Mothernerd - hope you feel much better soon. Do you have any white spirits? Diluted (heavily!) that's good for getting paint off skin as long as you're careful!

Spend day yesterday and today as all my direct debits come out for the month. Hoping for a spend free day tomorrow and saturday. I was thinking about AM's questions and what we do to save money... for me, it's been YNAB and learning to have a budget, rather than just spending on the basis I have money in my account. That's led to a lot of positive little habits, like I try and use my debit card where possible so that it all shows up on my internet banking and I don't just "lose" £10 as I used to. It's adding up my rainy day funds, things like my MOT etc and trying to save that amount/12 a month. I do do other stuff, like always taking my lunch to work and avoiding expensive coffees, but I really do think learning to budget well has been the key.

Well, that was quite serious for 6am! Totals below, didn't get to go out at lunchtime yesterday as it was torrential rain, hoping for better things today. Turtle power :D

    NSDs: 8/16
    Petrol (till 15th Nov) £0/£60
    Groceries (till 15th Nov) £0/ £150

Proud to be debt free September 2014. :j
