Hi All
Been AWOL for a few days. Been a bit run down and had an upset tummy since Friday. Think it may be linked to the second lot of antibiotics in the last 10 days or so. On the plus side tooth is much better.
If work had not changed my original redundancy date I would be counting down the last week as we speak but unfortunately I still have just over 5 weeks to go
I have not been on a bike (apart from an excessive bike) for at least 20 years so I am taking it slowly and been dreaming about my future whilst being overtaken by many other riders :rotfl:
Will list my dreams for the next few years later when I have pinned them all down.

Luckystarr... I am in no way an expert at all but, for me, having "pots" has been a godsend.
OH and I have each put £1 a day into a savings pot, lovingly called our xmas pot. As I have bought a xmas present, I have used the xmas pot money. Oh, and more importantly, I have made a list showing the presents I have bought and for who so I don't buy twice.
I know it doesn't help in the short term but it may help in the long run as it gives you about £700 to spend on xmas. (which sounds like a huge amount of money but it doesn't have to be for xmas).
:embarasse
This sounds really cheeky but this has helped me brilliantly as my OH is now contributing to our presents (he is now paying half) where as before he didn't believe in buying presents for family but expected to receive.
:undecided
Sorry to hear about your uncle AM but am pleased that his passing was peaceful and full of love.
Hugs.
I am incredibly lucky with my OH although he does drive me up the wall and round the bend at times. He is very patient with my ideas such as xmas pots, holiday pots and other random saving schemes. So I am very grateful for that.
Hugs to everyone struggling.Mortgage: £0/£80,329.91

Good morning turtles! Sounds like a lot of us are having a tough week, probably not helped by how dark and cold it's suddenly gone. <hugs> to everyone - it will get better! Payday today so updated all my budgets, first time in YNAB without an overdraft repayment, so that was exciting as I could look at my savings pots and plan the month. Now to fill them up! New totals are below, NSD yesterday, not today as I have paid the electricity bill and my grandmother, but hopefully tomorrow will be! Have 3 social outings planned this month, so will need to be careful with the money in my restaurant category
NSDs: 8/16
Petrol (till 15th Nov) £0/£60
Groceries (till 15th Nov) £0/ £150
Exercise 8/ 20
Happy hump day everyone...Proud to be debt free September 2014. :j

Applemuncher - sorry to hear about your Uncle. It's so hard to lose someone you love even though it's expected.
Lucky-star - I think we all go through times like that. Coming on here and realising its not just me really helps. A few things that have worked for me are - the envelope system, then having the pots in a bank account, taking full charge of the finances as OH is even worse than me. I took real pleasure seeing debts go down. I remember marking in red pen on the CC bills how much I had paid to them and how much was left to pay. Some way of recording your progress and seeing how far you have come could be a good morale booster.
As I wrote that last sentence I realise I need to take my own advice!! It's not been a great week for me so far and money seems to be flying out. Part of the problem is that I feel so tired I just can't be bothered doing all the money saving things, you know like making myself a packed lunch at 6am in the morning.0 -
There's a thread dedicated to people saying wht mse things they have done that day.
So I thought we could spend the rest of the bike ride noting down what we do to save money. Anything you do qualifies! It's these things that make us different! A few immediate ones from me:
I always take lunch to work and if I forget it I go hungry!
I am learning to only put on a FULL wash.
I Tilly Tidy.
I try to use cash not cards.

I always take lunch to work and if I forget it I go hungry! Same here, also as I don't take my wallet to work unless I need to go to the PO or similar I don't have another option
I am learning to only put on a FULL wash. Got a 9kg WM which is always full
I Tilly Tidy.
I try to use cash not cards.I'm the opposite, I use cards mostly. That way I don't get change to fritter away, my down fall. And my bank account matches my spreadsheet.
Best get dd up - must leave the house in 30 mins!!
Today will be an NSD as I don't have my wallet.DEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/250 -
applemuncher - so sorry to hear about your uncle, how dreadful for your Mum, she must be feeling so sad to lose him.
Lilt - great news about the painkillers, long may it continue.
Thrifty - have you looked into a childminder? They are considerably cheaper usually and very flexible and the children get a home from home environment with lots of trips out. I know several childminders very well and they are fantastic, the kids get to go to toddler groups, play gyms, the park etc etc and do loads of other fun stuff. I thought about registering myself as one but I am to anal about my house and mess. They take the childcare vouchers too.
Luckystarr - I think I know how you feel at the moment. I am just wanting to buy tons of stuff, I still have my eye on the very expensive riding boots I tried on last week, I am waiting for my mountain biking shoes and new pedals to arrive (hopefully today) I want a biker jacket (will settle for a faux leather one) the list goes on. Unfortunately the old mindset of 'stuff it I'm having it' kicks in and I just buy what I want.
DD got the results of one of her 11+ tests back yesterday and she has scored highly enough to apply for a place, she doesn't meet any of the over subscription criteria so I had to call to check the likelihood of her being offered a place and she has scored so highly on the test she will definitely get a place. She is over the moon.Debt Free and now a saver, conscious consumer, low waste lifestyler

Yes we checked. They're not that much cheaper around here and then we'd have the problem of them going on holiday or being sick etc. DS is now at a cheap nursery (ca £23 a day minus funding). DD is at his old private one (£44 a day ) but will hopefully move to DS new nursery too once they build the baby bit. Only another year or two and things should get a lot cheaper.DEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/250
