family church wont marry me, it only serves students

Wouldn't you want to get married at the church you actually attend, rather than this one?
I have some sympathy for the OP. My wife and I got married in a church a 100 miles away from our own parishes because my wife had a sentimental attachment to it... her parents were married there and she attended it as a child.
It was just before the CoE relaxed the rules so we had to jump through some hoops to get approval. It was worth it though.0 -

Forgive my scepticism, but this is organised religion we're talking about, so if all else fails......well just as I hold on to the hope that not everyone who voted yes in the Scottish referendum thinks everyone in the SE of England is 'rich tory loving scum', I try to offer the same charitable expectations that there are many in all walks of life with excellent ethics...
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -

Several have suggested you speak to your parish priest about it. In fact, you will have to speak to him anyway because if you wish to marry in another parish you have to get permission from your parish priest before the wedding at the chosen church can be arranged. My niece found this out a few months ago - she wanted to marry in the quaint Catholic church in the next parish rather than her own 'modern' parish church - the priest sent her to get permission from her parish priest before he would accept the booking.0

Isn't your 'family church' the one you go to every Sunday?
Your links with this church aren't very strong if you didn't know it wasn't an ordinary parish church any more.0 -

Exactly. 'Family church' to me means the one my family goes to, not the one my family went to for a couple of weddings decades ago.0 -
I'm glad I'm not catholic...0

.
That's interesting. The OP and their family haven't contributed to the body of the church by way of worship or the fabric of the church by way of money in almost 30 years. No wonder they were told that church doesn't "do tradition", the OP doesn't do religion there either......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Are you a practising catholic, or just catholic through family tradition?
Seems odd that the changes were made in 1984 but your family were unaware?!
I doubt you'll get anywhere with this, will probably be better if you want a church wedding, and font already attend, to start attending your local church?0
