But, and yes, it is purely selfish, if Scotland leaves the union, the Conservatives will get their EU referendum and as things stand we'll leave the EU. My employer has already told all of us that if we leave the EU, they will sell up their UK branch and leave because it will be no longer viable for them. This, obviously, damages me quite significantly.

So, while I don't have a say on the subject, while I do respect whatever Scotland decides, you can understand why a decision that is completely out of my hands has a negative knock-on effect to me.

Do you think that Britain will leave the EU if Scotland is no longer part of us? That thought hadn't occurred to me and must say my instant reaction was "Silver lining to cloud = yay..out of EU at last".

Having said that, obviously I hope things will work out for the best for you personally.

I hope it's a 'No' vote - I love being British, I feel sad that that could change.
Though it gives more of an opportunity to have a Welsh apect to the rUK flag!!

I find it curious that the decision according to many of the comments here is based on an anti-Tory feeling. So how different would the result be, if we had a Labour Government!? And why?

Whilst the No Campaign are accused of a negative campaign, conversely the Yes campaign seemed to be based on wishful thinking
    - we'll join the EU - no Spain will veto you (as an example to Catalonia),
    - no border control with England - if you do join the EU, new entrants have accept the Schenagen (excuse the spelling) Accord (free movement of people) the UK currently opted out hence Border Control
    - Olympic Games will have Scottish medalists - seems some doubt that Scotland would be able to participate in Rio! But even if they can, the UK Lottery fund won't fund them - they'd be foreigners.
    Welcome to the 'real' world.

More people vote Tory in England than up here, by a mile.

The way I heard it, in a previous Scottish election (don't know if local or Euro though), 380k people voted for the SNP while 371k voted for the Tories and UKIP - that's hardly a trouncing.

Also, in numerous recent Scottish elections 1 in 6 or 1 in 7 of the votes have gone to the Tories.

Scots often suffer amnesia about the strong core of Tory voters.

I hope the result is No - but whichever flag we end up with I think it would benefit from adding a dragon to it, that would look great! :D

No collywobbles here and no collywobbles from the masses of people who were in George Square in Glasgow tonight.

Of course not. Glasgow has the highest benefits claimants of anywhere in the UK and a third of those are on incapacity benefits. They have the most to lose from austerity.

That's why the Scottish Government keep saying "it isn't about any political party, you aren't voting SNP but make sure you keep the Tories out of Scotland"

    That's not a Yes Scotland that's a No tories ;)

I see you said that is exactly why you voted yes. For me that's wrong. Governments come and go. Scotland had the Labour government it voted for from 97 to 2011 and look how well they did. This is a permanent decision that will affect millions of people, including those who have no say as demonstrated by this thread.

General Election - vote for who you like. The question on this ballot paper was not "do you want the Tories in government?" It was "Should Scotland be an Independent country?"

Personally I think it will be a Yes and I think the bloodbath afterwards will be between yes/no but in the Yes camp itself.

They have Brian Souter a man who has campaigned against gay rights and Tommy Sheridan the socialist supporting them. There is no way that the promises of right wing taxation (very Tory) and left wing public spending can marry up.

The fight will be between those in the Yes camp, very few of whom will actually get what they thought they would.

    I've said no.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

There are very few logical reasons to want to leave the EU. Most people who want us to leave the EU want it based on nothing more than good old fashioned nationalism.

Personally, even ignoring the fact that it would make me unemployed most likely, it makes me weep for the future of the whole species that we would seek to go backwards and put up more divisions and barriers based largely on tribalist hoohah than seek unity which is the only way, with dwindling resources and a ballooning population, that we will ever survive long-term.

I can only find it fortunate that I'll be dead before it really hits the fan.

I hope it's a no vote as I would love Scotland to stay part of us and independence is a huge risk. I also think Salmond is a smug pr*ck whose only response to genuine worries is to accuse the people with the worries of scaremongering.

The desperation of Cameron et al though has been cringeworthy. This made me laugh: http://www.theonion.com/articles/david-cameron-to-scottish-people-ill-kill-myself-i,36941/

How many Tory MPs does Scotland have?

    No amnesia here.
  • I'll be really sad if Scotland leaves... I am dismayed about some of the ill feeling the seems to be towards the normal English (non Tory voting) people. Hopefully this is just media hype and you love us really!

I dont care what you think about why I voted yes. Lots of people want away from Tory rule.

By the way Im not a Labour voter, nor a Tory, neither do I care much for the SNP

But I care very much about the future of my country and I voted yes the same way people voted no and that is their right and their choice.

My mum was at the rally in Glasgow last night, shes not a benefits claimant, shes been working over 40 years. My brother is working full time, he voted yes.

I know people on benefits who are voting no, totally individual choices.
