Free Laptop with AOL now! (merged)

My broadband with AOL is now active but I have not received my new router from AOL, I am having to use my old/current router and luckily I guessed the correct settings to let me connect

I have had a nightmare with this offer, Im all ready on AOL, so free laptop seemed a good idea.

Rang last week, they took the money for the laptop (upgraded to the £149.99 laptop) and the delievery charges.

Was told that the laptop would be with me thurs (was yestersday), at lunch time had a funny feeling that something did not add up, was I right.

Cut a long story short, the lap top is not due for dispatch to the 1stOct, got to waste another day waiting for them to deliever. As a good will gesturethey have refunded me the delievry charges. x

we will wait and see!

My sign up call was awful. It took nearly an hour, 15 minutes just to get my address right on the system, then she took my card details 3 times at various intervals, read all the welcome spiel at the end of the call, told me she would do a credit check about 10 minutes after she did it and I ended up having to call back to confirm just what I had ordered and when it would all arrive. She was very new, I just hope it isnt' a sign of things to come.

Its not something thats easy to explain, im extremely proficient when it comes to I.T. matters as I worked in the trade for many years so unless youve ever setup a wireless router before your better off just waiting for AOL to send you your router which comes pre-configured.

I'm in shame about how daft I'm sounding, but will i lose my Yahoo email addy by changing over? I've had the same address for 4 years and its my work email address.

I signed up this afternoon online without too many hiccups. Mind you their T&C's are 41 pages long on A4 - and the one flagged as specific 'notebook' T&C's makes zero mention of the notebook, just all the usual waffle re broadband/phone/equipment/rights/responsibilities. Nothing in there that worried me.

Only potential downside of 24m contract is IF you want to MOVE during it and there is statement about a new minimum term contract at new address in it.

Got my order confirmation within a couple of hours and have phoned them my MAC already so have to see how it goes now. (Their stupid online form to give them MAC requires you to already have your AOL Username!)

EMS*Honie: If you are ADSL'd already then you get a MAC from your existing supplier and that enables AOL to takeover that ADSL circuit with a minimum of disruption and potentially only a few minutes/hour of downtime. You MAY have to enter a new id/password into your ADSL modem (or their new one) but that depends on how they configure the circuit which I don't know... yet. Your issue re email is a valid one - if you get your Yahoo email BECAUSE you pay them for Internet Access then you DO need to check/worry about what may become of it if you stop paying them. Only Yahoo's T&C's/modus-operandi can determine that. One moral is NEVER rely on an email address from your ISP as that does POTENTIALLY lock you into that ISP.
