Oh no - not again...

HiI have just phoned to enquire about this. I don't have a BT landline, I have TalkTalk so I didn't qualify (even though Talk Talk are owned by AOL - or the other way round). It seemed fairly good to me as I have a very very old pc and wanted a laptop anyway, and was quoted £31.40 for BT landline quarterly plus £24.99 monthly for AOL wireless broadband. I'm trying to decide whether to hastily switch over to BT landline so that I can try and get a laptop. Can anyone advise? It would be more than I am paying for TalkTalk broadband and the contract is 24 months with AOL. I guess £24.99 per month for AOL wireless broadband is not a brilliant price and maybe they recoup that way?I know I should make my own decisions but any advice would be appreciated!Cheers

Had a look at their Pay as You Go package, jeez that's a rip off.

    60 Minute Evening Call - BT Option 1 = 4.5p AOL PAYG 4.25p + 1p/min = 64.5p

    Similar story for weekends

You can dial a prefix to use the normal BT network or so im told so you dont have to make calls on the talk talk network

I received the first welcome pack yesterday via citylink. It was basically a receipt for my £14.99 delivery of the laptop charge and a little booklet/info guide.

The booklet tells people with exisintg broadband suppliers to call them and provide a MAC code. I did this and the guy (in the indian call centre) took my MAC code and gave me an email account and password.

I then went onto AOL's website logged into the webmail and found several emails telling me what was going on :)
  • Did you order online or by phone? How long did it take?
I just ordered online but my credit isn't brilliant. How do you know if you have been accepted? I got a text confirming the order but no email yet - did you get instant confirmation?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm impatient!!
I ordered on the phone - did a credit check while I waited and took £14.99 for the delivery - I was a bit concerned as I've only just sorted out a wireless modem and router for my son to do xbox live, the man assured me that the one they send out will be Ok - but I have a 7 day cooling off period in which to find out (I'll have to sell the original router on Ebay!)
  • Multiply the exta you will pay by 24 months and see if its more than the cost of a laptop... That will help give you a bit more perspective...

hey Louisa Jane, does it say when your laptop will arrive???

or when your connection will be set up?
  • I can't really remember (my memory is atrocious!) I think he said I will be connected as soon as they've received the mac code and checked the line etc - a couple of weeks? - then they send the laptop ( after the 7 day cooling off period)
  • Does anyone know what the download limits are for the 8mbps broadband, or is it unlimited?

...and don't forget that the extra is increasing all the time, as broadband subscription prices fall.

...and take the figure of £450 for the laptop's worth with a veritable salt mine.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.

£25 a month x 24 months is £600. You can get a much better laptop than the free one offered for that price.

Funny how they want a BT line to be able to give the offer but then want you to use AOLtalk for your phone.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
