The headline £20 price only ever applied to those whos exchanges contain AOL equiptment (the so-called local loop unbundling or LLU). A quick check on the AOL website will tell you what offer you will get.

For those who have to use BT ADSL service (where AOL have to buy the service from BT then add on thier profit margin) the more expensive price applies - the same price as you would get charged going through the main AOL webite, I believe.

They are both owned by CPW so I'd stay away from either if I were you. I also would want to keep my BT line and won't go for this even if it is £20 in total for me.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

    What is wrong with CPW?...
Why would you want to keep your BT line?...

ive just had the email too, have we all agreed to this offer simply by asking for further info??? THe email says they haveto do a credit check and they will be in touch saying how to get the shiny new dell notebook.

No regard to are you still interested in this offer?!?

Im current on silver package and pay 9.99pm, so factoring that in the laptop is going to cost me an extra ££255 in internet fees over the 2 years and means i will be tied to aol for the same period.

Ive been with aol for 5years now and i dont mind them, yeah sometimes it has problems but which isp doesnt these days. not sure i want to give up the indefinate £9.99pm unlimited broadband offer im on.

not sure how good this offer is now, and i didnt realize it was compulsory to have your calls with aol talk too :(

    Whats everyones else opinion?
How good and how much is this laptop really worth??
Have we allready entered this agreement my request further info???

Thank you for your interest in the Free Laptop offer. We're delighted to confirm that our initial checks indicate that the minimum terms of your existing AOL Broadband contract has expired, making you eligible to apply for this offer. Please bear in mind that we still need to verify that the offer prices stated below are available in your area and carry out a credit check.

Once we have completed these final checks we will contact you with details on how to place your order and reserve your shiny, new Dell Notebook, which will be available from late September.

Our standard broadband and phone package is £19.99 a month - which includes our AOL Talk Pay As You Go plan. You get free technical support calls to AOL Member Services*, competitive rates, and there are no additional monthly subscription charges for the phone package, so you only pay for the calls you make.

But you may wish to get even better value each month by subscribing to one of our other Talk packages.

Evening and weekend calls can be included from just £22.49 a month, or subscribe to our unlimited calls plan from just £24.99 a month**.

Terms and conditions apply to this offer and prices. See below for details. Please note, you will need to continue paying BT for your phone line.

Look out for an email from us, with further details on how to get hold of your free laptop.

AOL has totally messed up on this offer. They're bound to lose customers as this is a totally ridiculous offer. Don't think they thought this offer through properly. They certainly will be losing me, as I was hoping to pick up the free laptop. I'd rather get FREE broadband with Orange, and take out a new contract phone for £30+ per month.... at least I'd have broadband and a mobile phone with minutes!!!

i think this offer is targeted for new customers more, i have always found aol (pre carphone warehouse) was quite generous in its offers to existing customers to keep them happy.

So for customers already on a loyality package this offer is not that gr8.
But for a new customer with aols standard current tariffs of 14.99-39.99 pm and an 18month contract. the free laptop offer is a good deal in comparision.

Wonders how many people will sign up for this offer

I think I will sign up. I currently pay BT £27.99 a month for broadband so fo me, if I dont take the call package, its only £2 a month extra, so it works out as £48 for the Laptop. My BT drops out for a combined amount of about 1 to 2 hours a day so I dont think I will miss them too much (I hope)

It's probably a good idea to check if your exchange has been LLU'ed by AOL, you can use http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php

Might be worth waiting to see what 02 offer, as they launch their service in October. They're using Be Unlimited which seems to have quite a good rep.
