  • I've been with aol for several years and very few problems. I got the impression that if you were on contract already to aol you didn't have to stop one and start another, they'll simply change it. I tried talk talk but had to take my phone line away from BT and didn't want to do that. I sent the box back to them and am hving troubnle getting my refund. I'm interested to know how I can have broadband wirelessly on a laptop. I'm also hoping I can send it back to Dell to get it upgraded.

  • I'm pondering whether to wait for this deal for the 'free' laptop or to move over to TalkTalk for the £17.50 per month offer for broadband, calls and line rental...

The PC world laptop is very old.

I have an ibook from 2003 that beats that laptops specs. They've found a way to shift older laptops, good, but if your like me and rely on computers for 90% of your daily life, thats not a good enough bargin, he he.

Im with telewest, never had any problems, and there nice and fast.

All these people rushing for there laptops will only make browsing speed slower. Maybe not just yet, but there must be a possibility of 'overselling' there bandwidth.

ive fell for that with aol before, if you ring up and request a change on your broadband account they then tie you in again with a minimum term, this has recently increased to 18 or 24 months.

Once when aol was doing a free broadband speed upgrade i rang up and asked when it would be happening and they said right now, but didnt say that as i had asked them for it it ment my minimum term had begun again.

Im still waiting for a speed upgrade on their silver package from 1mps to 2mps, but im not askin them for it this time.

Aol now has a fair usage policy, and i can see them introducing monthly limits before long like most other isps have.

Ive been with them for 4 or so years now, i wouldnt say they was bad, the software can be a pain but u dont haveto use it.

A free laptop sounds quite a deal though.

If they introduce monthly limits do you think you could end your contract, after all you signed up to unlimited usage

They won't introduce defined monthly limits - the Fair Use Policy provides them with enough power to limit an account's speed.

The time to opt out was when they emailed everyone in February.

    FYI

I've just received an e-mailed acknowledgement of my registration and have been asked in the e-mail to forward it on to others. They also state that the offer will not apply to current AOL customers within their minimum contract period:
