I have never understood what the competition sub section has to do with MSE.

As it says in the post by MSE Martin in the please read section
Welcome to the new forum. The aim is to list all the free competitions that are around, after all if it's free and you win it - then it's good MoneySaving.
  • i like it how it is i dont think there should be yet another sub forum for fb/twitter comps theyre usually in the title u just scroll past if u dnt want to enter it

nothing sperfect it never will be or it would be some sort of stepford wives world lol
    What goes around-comes around

Makes me wonder why he lets a thread which encourages gambling exist.
  • I think the competition section is great as it is.
Most of the competitions have it in the title if they are for social media. I enter various routes to win prizes, I don't think of it as gambling, more a hobby to boost gifts for my family & friends.
If social media competitions where moved into their own section that would then mean I'd have to do that & then find the other competitions I want to enter, where as at the moment I just set the date order & work my way through.
I'm very grateful to all who post competitions, occasional I have managed to post but usually I get beaten to it, which is great as we are all sharing & wishing each other luck at the same time.
It's not meant to be rocket science & if you want organised into different sections I'm sure there is a site out there on the web that will meet your need as MSE does for me & lots of other hobby compers.

Leave the MSE Competition section alone!:iloveyou:

Well I've added my two pence worth. :D

I think it's only gambling, if we're paying for it - either with a stamp, text or phone call. I'm not saying I don't enter those comps, I do (though sometimes wish I didn't, when I throw ten postcards in the postbox!), but I think it's a slightly different hobby to regular, free comping. :)

But many on here (myself including) take part in the RM postal surveys, so we get our stamps for free!

Growth of MSE Comping - just a random sample from a midweek day:

    Main board posts 08/09/11 - 343

    Main board posts 09/09/14 - 350

I personally think the amount of comps has declined this year compare to last year and the year before. Maybe a check on an end of month (May or December normally being the bigger ones) might show a different difference? I'm afraid I won't be volunteering to count them up though ;)
    Thanks to all posters :A

Okay I've not felt that much interest in this thread so far because I'm fairly happy with it the way it is but here's a few thoughts.

On another well known comps site which is now run by compers to all intents and purposes there is a clique of people with a god complex; there always has been over there but even more so now and if your fall foul of them you comp but you NEVER interact.

This hasn't happened to me but I have seen it happen to others so I don't ever interact over there anyway.

I feel safe to chat here when the mood takes me because it has proper moderators.

I think you really do need a disinterested third party to moderate such a busy forum because sadly you cannot always rely on good will.
